Happy St. George Day! Remembering the inspirational flags created for him… like a Greek Revolutionary flag from 1821, the many crossed flag of Georgia, the moors heads of Corsica, the Hellenic Armed Forces and of course the Flag of adopted by King Richard the Lionhearted during the Crusades (which also helped ships at Genoese ports in the Med) many many thanks to .gr for yet another nudge in the right direction

The birth of a new flag:

A "new" version of the Russian flag has popped up. The stripe on the symbolises the blood Russians has shed for the independence of the country.
Removing it creates a flag reminiscent of the flag of but a also a new flag of Russians for Peace.

This let’s look at the brilliant work of Inbal Newman whose residency at the .lsa produced this both beautifully hand made & researched series of flags. This via Lighthousenow.ca “Inbal Newman, the artist-in-residence at the Lunenburg School of Arts (LSA) who is an avid sailor, has created an exhibit of hand-stitched "standards" or flags for unsung female seafarers.

The flag we designed for the annual Elly race. Based on the Zulu flag. NΟι αγώνες του Ναυτικού Ομίλου Ελλάδος εκτός από Ναυταθλητικά γεγονότα, αλλά συνδέουν και θυμίζουν λαμπρές στιγμές & λαμπρές προσωπικότητες της Ελλάδας στη θάλασσα… Ο Αγώνας ΕΛΛΗΣ 2022 είναι συνήθως ο πρώτος αγώνας της αγωνιστικής χρονιάς του ΝΟΕ

Ο Αγώνας Έλλης πήρε το όνομα του από την Ναυμαχία της Έλλης που έλαβε χώρα πριν 100 χρόνια (16/12/1912)

Η Ναυμαχία ξεκίνησε με το θρυλικό τηλεγράφημα του Ναυάρχου Κουντουριώτη:
"“Με την δύναμιν του Θεού και τα ευχάς του Βασιλέως και εν ονόματι του Δικαίου πλέω μεθ‘ ορμής ακαθέκτου και με την πεποίθησην της νίκης εναντίον του εχθρού του γένους” .
Επιπλέον η Ναυμαχία κερδήθηκε από Ελληνικής πλευράς όταν ο Ναύαρχος Κουντουριώτης ύψωσε την σημαία Ζ (Zulu) επί του Θωρηκτού Αβέρωφ που σήμαινε "Αγνοήστε τις κινήσεις μου, Κινούμαι ανεξάρτητα"

Σε ανάμνηση των θαρραλέων ναυμάχων μας και των ανδραγαθημάτων τους ο επισείοντας του αγώνα της Έλλης που δόθηκε στους νικητές είναι η σημαία Ζ με την τρίαινα του Ν.Ο.Ε. !!!
