He was best known for his fruitful collaborations with Bertolt Brecht. Many of his songs have been covered by many artists, many times. His best known songs are probably, "Mack the knife" and "Alabama song".

On a day like today, February 11 1847, American inventor, businessman (and scientific patent thief) Thomas Alva Edison was born.
In 1877 he "invented" the gramophone, that you can see on this picture, but sound was first recorded by Frenchman Édouard Leon Scott De Martinville nearly two decades earlier in the late 1850's.
Nevertheless the gramophone would be the very beginning for what was about to be one of the biggest industries in the world. The music industry!!!
