The origin of the word Sirajkhana comes from ancient Tbilisi slang: Siraj (wine trader, ancient Persian)- and Sirajkhana (wine house, ancient Persian).
Borrowed from the Persian language the word Sirajkhana entered the history of 19th century Tbilisi and became the true treasure of locals in everyday speech, culture and trade-business sector of old Tbilisi, located on the Silk Road.
T
he first wine house "Sirajkhana" was opened on the right bank of the river Mtkvari in Kala district, where todays Chardin street is located. Further mentions of these wine shops & houses are indicating on their spread almost throughout the territory in the old town. Сhannels also mention the special-one Sirajkana-Douqan, more than a wine outlet, but place where wine ''flowed like river and not only wine, but colorful food'' , revealing the true taste of the wine.
After reviewing numerous publications, newspapers, released in 19-20 century, as well as talking to historians and Georgians masters of wine - we have gathered Sirajkhana concept into one, adding some modern touches, unique collection of wine, watched by famous sommelier - Magda Surguladze, and original cuisine developed by talented chef - Keti Bakradze.
True Sirajkhana spirit is spinning in the air and is easy to be caught in different wine things and details like huge wine barrels all around and unique georgian clay vessels, qvevris for storing wine. the interior almost does not have brick elements, famous in each typical Georgian design, but on the contrary there is a lot of natural materials- like wood, a little rough leather furniture, table reminiscent of the oak frame, in the center of the hall there is a vitreous wine room, cozy fireplace area, a lot of candles, as well as conceptual music, which sets the mood of the Georgian feast celebrated all over the world.
Food concept: is simple, accessible to all, but still authentic, traditional Georgian & indeed original.
We would like to be positioned as a “Gastronomic Douqan” because it would not be more accurate than this to define the true essence, which we were trying to create.
The main idea, that inspired us and our brand chef Keti Bakradze during the creation of menu- was the influence of ancient Persia on ancient Georgia, which applied to absolutely each sector of public life of Georgians back in the days, and today is a full-fledged part of history, passed to us through all the years: fashion, architecture, interiors, borrowed words (including the name of the restaurant), and of course above all – gastronomy. Food-muses for us became different Persian products & spices such as - cinnamon, saffron, cardamom, ginger, cumin, fresh herbs, mint, tarragon, of course rice and pistachios, pomegranates and rose extract. Join us for authentic foods & finest wines of Georgia, Cheers!
