Last night I decided I wanted a quiet night to myself instead of a conference gala so I took myself on a date with a book to .wine in Yeravan. It's a natural wine bar very close to Republic Square. And what a place! I am not lying when I said the young man who helped me choose wines was one of the best wine professionals I have ever encountered after twenty years in the business. He was so knowledgeable but also passionate and friendly. I really feel like I got to know Armenian wine better through his guidance. He was a natural storyteller, and told me the story of every wine I tried. He understood the soul and emotions of the wine, didn't try to push wine on me that I didn't like, listened. Did all the things that SHOULD be done by sommelier but aren't done because of an agenda.

At my favorite home in Tbilisi. is a world renowned artist in a family of artists and musicians. I own three of his paintings. There is art everywhere and such a gorgeous light in this home, and cat muses. One of my goals is to buy works by local artists when I travel.

Thr best time to have a market tour is any time really but we are quite partial to Green Plum season at our favorite market in Kutaisi. These sour plums are used as medicine and in recipes. Everyone falls in love with the tart Tkemali sauce when they try it. These green cherry plums are an indispensable part of many dishes. But the most revered dish is the seasonal Chakapuli. Green cherry plum and lamb stew. Can also be made with mushrooms for vegetarians and Orthodox Christians who are fasting.

My mouth is watering just writing this!

📍Chreli Abano & Spa

I never miss a visit to the Sulphur baths in Tbilisi. The hot sulphur water cures jetlag and the women who massage and scrub you will have you more exfoliated than you've ever been in your life. It's relaxing and exhausting at the same time, so I always get tea and a saline Borjomi for energy.

There are a number of baths, but I've been going to CHRELI ABANO since it reopened after years of renovation. It's just as charming and beautiful with mosaics and gorgeous tiles on the inside as on the exterior.

🇬🇪 Georgia, where every dish overflows with the love of herbs, the secret melody behind Georgian gastronomy. The air is rich with the scent of coriander, tarragon, and of mint. The real secret to Georgian cuisine is abundance use of aromatic herbs in everything from omelets to soups. Even the beans!

Fresh dill and purple basil. Different kinds of mint. Everything is full of flavor AND FULLY SEASONED.

A small organic tea plantation in Guria, Georgia run by three generations of brilliant Georgian women.

🌿 The history of tea in Georgia dates back to when the first tea plants were brought to Georgia in the 19th century by Prince Mihae Dadiani, who discovered them during his travels in China. Initially grown as an ornamental plant, the cultivation of tea soon spread throughout the country, aided by the favorable climate and fertile soil. Over time, Georgia's tea industry blossomed, and today, the country is known for its unique and aromatic teas, including black, green, and herbal varieties. Georgians have developed their own tea culture, with traditional brewing methods and a focus on preserving the distinct flavors and qualities of each tea.

--In Georgia, guests often find themselves at a supra, or feast, with a traditional tamada or toastmaster. There is a rigorous code of order. Toasts are made to God and country, and then there is a special toast to women. But women’s power and energy comes strictly from their ability to give birth. There is an entire mythos built around qvevri wine, with the fertility of the woman’s body likened to the vineyard; the wine is made in a qvevri, an earthenware vessel thought to be in the shape of a uterus.--

“They make toasts to women,” she says, “While at the same time oppressing and objectifying them.”-Keto Ninidze
