Good afternoon everyone, we hope you're all doing well.
As many of you will already know, on Thursday 18th of June we all said goodbye to one of our best friends, and longest serving members, Trevor Whimp. It was a lovely service and a wonderful way to remember a man that had a huge impact on this club, and on us all as a whole.
The reasoning for this post, an accusation has been made about a member stealing envelopes with money. After a very thorough review of CCTV this morning, we can confirm 100%, that the accusations being made are INCORRECT.
For context, envelopes were put on tables, each of these contained a £5 note, with a message "One last gift from Trevor, have a drink or a bet on me." These were left available so that people whom attended can help themselves to one each.
The member and his wife whom have been accused, arrived at the wake later than most people and sat down on a busy table where all the envelopes had already been opened. The member has gone outside for a cig, and was made aware about the envelopes and their intended purposes. The member has come back in, and gone to a table where there was still multiple envelopes left, and taken two envelopes, one for him, and one for his wife, gone and sat back down at his original table, and used the money to place a bet along with everyone else who was sat at that table. This was the intended purposes of these envelopes.
I can confirm 100%, that the accused people, DO NOT take any envelopes beforehand, nor do they take more than one each. The CCTV has been watched multiple times by myself and a committee man, we've watched from the moment the accused people have arrived, and have watched their every movement prior and an extended period after the incident, and no other envelopes were taken. We've also spoken to the man accused, along with other members, and every account corresponds to the CCTV footage.
Without any context, it's understandable how it can be seen as something malicious, but after reviewing the CCTV, and speaking to other members, this is purely a misunderstanding, obviously its was a very emotional day, and conclusions were jumped to, before a real investigation was done.
Due to accusations being made, the member and his wife have received abuse, and an accusation like this can have serious consequences. Before knowing the full story, understandably, a lot of people have made their frustrations and anger about these individuals know, but they've not done what they have been accused of doing, and we ask people not to direct anymore abuse at them, they haven't done anything wrong.
We apologise to the couple for the false accusations, and also ask for people to remember that this day was to remember Trevor, and not this be the narrative of what was otherwise and wonderful send off.
