Your primary source for information, offers, events and contact. The Courtyard - Opened in 2009, The Courtyard is our flagship bar and restaurant. Come and visit us in the heart of Derwent College to take up the great weekly deals and tasty food. The extensive, comfortable interior is perfect for catching up with friends over food and drinks. The menu combines local, fresh British fayre with Medit

erranean inspired dishes and is available until 8:00pm during the week. Late night food is also available once this menu finishes. The outdoor space has plenty of tables and is perfect for a drink in the summer sun. For the chilly winter months, we have outdoor heaters and a great hot drinks menu. Sports fans will be pleased to know that we have Sky Sports 1-4 and BT Sport available across our plasma screens. The Lounge - The home of societies, The Lounge was opened last year and is located in the Roger Kirk Centre, James College. The venue is a sophisticated cocktail bar which is home to the most premium drinks selection available on campus. Whether it’s a quiet drink with friends or the starting point for a big night out, The Lounge caters to all audiences and requirements. If you’re a sports fan, The Lounge is the second venue on campus to offer Sky Sports ensuring that you’ll never miss a crucial game at university. The Glasshouse - Opened in 2012, The Glasshouse is Heslington Easts only licensed social space. Located in the centre of Langwith College, we provide an environment that caters to you. During the day, The Glasshouse offers a relaxed social space for you to study, catch up with friends and grab a bite to eat. The evening sees The Glasshouse transform into the social centre of Heslington East; providing cheap drinks, the best music and a late night menu for those midnight munchies. The menu combines local, fresh British fayre with continental inspired dishes and is available until 8pm during the week. Our specials board is filled with good, hearty home made dishes and is changed daily. We’re also home to Marmite, YUSU’s dedicated ‘cheese’ night, which features on Saturday Week 4 and 8. Happy Friday!

Here is a really quick rundown of just some of the awesome things you can get up to in our venues over the next few days:

Tonight- D-Bar is once again opening it's venerable shutters and serving all manner of bodacious beverages including the world famous Cheeky D! If that's not enough Derwent are running karaoke! (We hear a Cheeky D is not only soothing to the vocal chords but can inspire confidence!) [Please drink responsibly!]

Then on Saturday we have two events of knockout nature going down on Campus West and East!

You can join the boxing club in the Lounge as their fighters take on competitors from York St.John (booo) and Lancaster (bigger boooo!).

Sunday is all about Varsity!
The opening Rugby fixture is at 11am and can be seen live on 22 Acres, or if you’d rather be chilling indoors watch live in Courtyard and Glasshouse!
The Lounge is hosting events all day including pool, the closing ceremony, and darts at 5:30pm! You can also enter our charity raffle and basketball competition, or pick up any remaining Varsity t-shirts from the bar.

Monday (We’re running out of breath!) is the campus classic of Vanbrugh Jazz in Vanbrugh Arms kicking off from 8:30pm.

Finally Tuesday sees our RuPaul’s Drag Race watch party in Glasshouse with special themed cocktails! Make sure you head down early to grab a good seat!

Here is D-Bar looking shiny.

If you want to see it with drinks and our lovely staff you can come along from 5pm today and every Friday this term!

Since D-Bar has been shut a little while, this almost feels like a sequel. We’re not sure what we’d call the film. 2D 2-Bar? D-Bar with a vengeance? The Good, the Bad, and the D-Bar? Answers on a postcard please, or hum the theme tune of the movie franchise you think would be the best way to characterise the rebirth of D-Bar as you order your drink/s this evening. We won’t think you’re strange. Promise.

Not everybody realises The Good, the bad, and the ugly is a sequel. The third film in the dollar series (A fistful of Dollars, and For a Few Dollars More) and apparently nobody seemed to be bothered with the naming continuity of the first few films because before movie multiverses what was the point in a strong IP? We have never seen a The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly Duvet set. (Writing this idea down for our Etsy side hustle).

A D-Bar film spinoff would ideally be high concept- a term that I recently discovered did not mean something highbrow, but more that the name explains the plot. Jaws is high concept. Toy Story is high concept. Alien vs Predator, you are gosh-darned right, high concept! Totally not worth watching, but the height of concept.

But that’s enough incredibly low brow film analysis, for today at least. In our own little way, I guess we’re all just waiting for D-Bar to open at 5pm.

It's been a busy week for YUSUBars!

Not only have we:

Had CocSoc tearing it up in the Lounge two nights this week with their Mixology sessions.

Successfully came up with a list of D-adjectives for D-bar's reopening images that didn't include D-fenestration.

Launched a new two cocktail pitchers for £20 on Friday's at The Glasshouse.

This Friday we reopen D-bar!

Swing by and watch Derwent's Take Me Out: an ideal way to restore your belief that if love can be found in Derwent, it can be found anywhere.

Or if Valentine's has left you feeling sour, a cheeky-D (no, we don't know what's in it either) might be exactly what you need to put a new spring in your step! We just kindly ask that you don't make prolonged eye contact when ordering if you choose to indulge in one or two.

We’re opening D-Bar on Friday 18th February for Take Me Out in collaboration with Derwent JCRC and then every Friday this term 5pm-late!

Help us make D-Bar great again by coming along! Whether it’s for a pint, game of darts, or trying to avoid Valentine’s alone by signing up for Take Me Out, we hope you enjoy the space and make D-Bar’s return triumphant!
