As many of you will be aware, the White Swan pub at Thornton-le-clay is in danger of being lost to the community. Local residents have rallied together to form ‘Save our Swan’ (S.O.S) group which, with over 50 members and 163 objectors to the recent planning application, succeeded in November in getting Ryedale District Council Planning Committee to unanimously refuse the application to turn the pub into a private dwelling.
Whether you were a regular or occasional user of the White Swan, or simply feel that having a traditional ‘local’ at the heart of any village community is important, we hope you will want to get involved and support efforts to retain it.
We are now at the stage of holding a few events to raise funds, the next of which is a Quiz & Auction of Promises to be held it Thornton-le-clay village hall on Friday 25 March at 7:30. Tickets are priced at £10 per person, to include a curry supper, and can be bought from Peter & Sally Mills at Clematis a house or at the door on the night.
We have had a terrific response from everyone and have many items to auction so please come along if you can.
An online catalogue has been produced (see next post) showing the promises and items received so far, so please have a look and see what you might like to bid for. If you’re unable to attend on the night, you may bid in advance by providing your details (name, contact telephone number and email address) together with the Lot number you wish to bid for and either a single bid or, if you prefer, both a starting bid and maximum bid for the item concerned.
All advance bids must be either :-
• emailed to [email protected]
•posted to Peter Mills, Clematis House, Low Street, Thornton-le-Clay, York, YO607TG
And must be received bu 12:00 noon on Thursday 23 March.
Please support us if you can and make this evening a great success.
Many thanks,
The Save Our Swan Group
