The Crescent Community Venue is York's latest fully-licensed, open-access, creative space. A former Working Men's Club, it has a long history of community spirit and musical entertainment spanning over 100 years. It will now be run as a family business aiming to provide an inclusive alternative venue for all members of the community. The venue contains:

100 capacity bar with:
Projector and wall-mounted screen
DJ Booth & 2kW sound system
Pool table, bar billiards table, bar & board games, retro computer games

250 capacity concert room with:
Large stage and separate DJ booth
Professional 6kW sound system & lighting
Industry standard live and DJ equipment
Separate bar and toilets
Wooden dancefloor


Standard opening hours:
Monday & Tuesday – 5 pm - 11:00 pm
Wed - Friday – 4 pm - 12 am
Saturday - 5 pm - 12 am
Sunday – 5 pm - 11 pm

Regular weekly events – Front Bar from 7pm:
Monday – Dominoes
Wednesday – Open Decks (anything goes on Vinyl, CD, USB or Laptop, all welcome)
Thursday – Dominoes & Bar Billiards
Weekends – DJs and bands/solo acts from 7pm

Tom Rosenthal Tom Rosenthal joins us again on Wednesday for another Sold Out show 🙌

On Thursday we welcome south coast psychedelic outfit Blind Yeo Blind Yeo to York for the first time and it’s going to be awesome! A bonus treat too with improv/motorik quartet The NSC Sound Union opening. Come have some fun! Bonus Open Decks on in the Front Bar too 🎧

We always have a great party with Bootleg Blondie nailing the hits from Blondie's entire career - grab a ticket if that sounds up your street for Friday

Legendary international psychedelic band GONG Gong return on Saturday following the release of their new album 'Bright Spirit' - tickets available via our website

On Thursday we've got our second Cresidents night as our bar team go up against the wonderful bar staff of The Golden Ball The Golden Ball in the first ever Pub Soundclash - a new DJ night focused on bringing people from two great York establishments for a night of fun tunes and flowing drinks. All are invited down to witness the first of two clashes against The Golden Ball DJs – this first night being held on The Cresidents’ home turf. Keep an eye out for the announcement of the return leg which will be hosted at The Golden Ball…

Melting Pot return on Friday with their 'Celebrating 10 Years of Celebrating Indie, Britpop & the 1990s!' Sold Out night. DJs in the bar to finish

After a massive night last month Irie Vibes Irie Vibes Sound System are bringing the bass again on Saturday as they welcome the Roots Traditional Roundbeat sound system from Huddersfield. Tickets only a fiver, available on our website now

To round out the week Katie Gregson-Macleod Katie Gregson-MacLeod showcases her deeply personal lyricism and folk-influenced sound. We've had some lovely Sunday gigs recently and this is set to be another one of them

We're a little slow on the draw getting this post up but we were too busy having fun with earthball.speaks and last night. Big up to the EarthBall folks for being in our photo and for an incredible gig

So what else have we got for you? Here's a quick rundown:

🎧 Open Decks - Wednesday from 7pm 🎧

Phil Ellis brings his sold out show to our stage on Thursday and then we've got Leeds formed CUD on Friday for a big indie night, with limited tickets still available via our website. Also on Friday take over the decks again for another Front Bar // Free Entry affair. It all promises to be lots of fun

Speaking of free we've got Bob Yenz presenting 'Soundcheck #2' on Saturday, but tickets are only free in advance or before 9pm on the night so get that one booked in. Drum n Bass, Jungle, 140 Bass & Dub on the big rig!

We're just giving away good vibes this week with yet another Front Bar // Free Entry event on Sunday. Heelspin debuts here at The Crescent - a dancefloor-focused Northern Soul night to round out the week

There are plenty of reasons to look less grumpy than Joe Coates this week with what we've got lined up for you here The Crescent

🎧 Open Decks - Wednesday from 7pm 🎧

We welcome back this is the kit once more for another sold out show on Thursday - can't wait for this one!

Friday night we've got the August edition of regular DJ night Mashed. Joining Tinkermuffin Tom (DJ Tinkermuffin) Maynard on the wheels of steel this month we have Musicarl - aka Carl Wain (3E Produtions) and Blackbelt Jones - aka Arthur B Jones (Mashed Resident & 3E Productions). As usual the fun starts at 8pm and finishes late. Front Bar // Free Entry on this one too!

Big party on Saturday as the legendary James Lavelle joins us alongside Crescent and Bob Yenz regulars Josh Bishop Jonny Crawshaw - don't miss out on tickets for this one!

We round out the week with two Free Entry events - the Front Bar hosts the debut of for all things Yacht Rock and Boat Trip Balearic all on original vinyl. Front Bar // Free Entry // 5pm start for this one

And in the back we've got a special Free Entry bonus night or punk-infused, indie-rock noise headed up by Birdlands alongside Bull Gorgeous and Speedreaders - bands on from 8pm

Phew! Plenty happening and lots of reasons to make you smile!

Ahhhh yeah, Ghanaian futurist rapper Ata Kak at his band are in The Crescent tonight!
His early 90's debut pretty much kick started Awesome Tapes From Africa when it was unearthed a decade ago. In Europe touring with Big Thief and in York cos we love yers.
