Me and my partner went to York for the weekend and I decided to book use a table at the Karoo to try something new. We were met with warm and welcoming staff members who were calming and very professional. We had a great conversation about their connections with South Africa. The food flavours were amazing and the portions were so good that we couldn’t manage dessert (this is not like us😅). We will definitely be going again when we visit York again. We highly recommend the restaurant ☺️

Second time we've visited when in York. Had the most fantastic evening at Karoo. The food was delicious, full of flavour, and clearly made with care. The wine was excellent, and the whole place has such a warm, cosy vibe. But the real stars are Nathan and Zach — they’re incredible hosts who make you feel completely at home. Can’t wait to go back.

This place is a hidden gem. Not as we’ll know as other places in York but better for us in the know. I’m not usually impressed by places from start to finish but here we go. The three people running the place felt like they were the owners and I think that they are. They explained the menu option with such complete knowledge that they had care and passion for what they were doing.I had the king prawns in chilli sauce and the tempura gherkins then the Ostrich fillet. The did not need sauce as it was cooked to perfection and the flavours were divine. If I’m going in to a different national restaurant then I always have that countries beer. Castle I believe it was. Great choice.My partner had the Aberdeen Angus burger and was very hap with the selection.When the menu came I asked it I could leave a tip but was told that there was already a service charge that was listed on the bill. I just didn’t realise as it already look great value.I haven’t been here since the menu redesign but will definitely be back soon.I’ve only ever given one other restaurant a 10/10 but this is now the second.The picture is obviously of my clean plates.

What a fantastic restaurant. Best experience in a long time, and I eat out regularly in London.The very kind, attentive owners looked after us from the minute we walked in the door. They were very friendly and helpful.After a joke saying my kids would prefer crème soda South African style this was delivered, despite not being on the menu. With a warning not to knock it over, which my daughter then did, and it was cleaned up with no fuss and the additional glass not even charged for.The food was exceptional. As a South African, this was truly a taste of home. Every part of every meal was incredibly tasty and the portion sizes way too big for us, but we were happy to take the remaining food home for enjoyment the next day.I can not recommend this restaurant enough. You will not be disappointed.

Had a fantastic date night at Karoo Bar & Kitchen in York. Great authentic South African food — the meals were beautifully prepared, full of flavour, and the portions were generous. Friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere, and overall just a really enjoyable evening. Prices were also very reasonable for the quality and portion sizes.Wanner ek terug in York sal ek weer kom vreet! 🇿🇦🍻

What a fantastic restaurant. Fell upon it on a weekend away in York. What a find. The food was excellent, I had the lamb shank, fell straight of the bone , wife had steak, very fussy how it's cooked, cooked to perfection.The staff were lovely, very friendly. Loved the place and will definitely go back when next in YorkOh and the pint of Golden Eagle, bloody lovely

First visit and fabulous experience. All the staff were really friendly and welcoming. The food was amazing, especially the cheesy mielie bites, Cape Malay curry and the Oxtail.Really good value and generous portions. Will definitely come back, thank you!
