Patrick and Claire are resident landlords of the Helyar Arms and are welcoming and friendly. Both of them have roots in the Home Counties but feel their home is the West Country with both of them having family living nearby in Somerset and Dorset. Patrick ran pubs when he was younger and Claire has been in the Hospitality business for many years and when The Helyar Arms became available they jumped at the opportunity to become part of this quintessential village community.

Tomorrow’s nearly here… 🍻

The middle of the week is almost behind us, and Thursday is a very good excuse to start looking towards the weekend.

Maybe it’s lunch after a walk around East Coker, dinner when nobody fancies cooking, or simply meeting someone for a drink and a proper catch-up.

Whatever brings you through the door tomorrow, we’ll have good food, local ales, cosy corners and a warm Helyar welcome waiting for you.

And with autumn beginning to creep into the Somerset countryside, there are few better places to spend an hour or two than a proper village pub. 🍂

Friday evening has arrived, and if you’re wondering what to do with it, we know a rather lovely little spot in East Coker…

Whether it’s a well-earned drink after a long week, dinner with the family, catching up with friends or simply finding a quiet corner and staying for one more, you’ll always find a warm welcome at The Helyar Arms.

The Somerset weather might not be warm and bright today, but that’s never stopped us at The Helyar Arms.

Tucked away in beautiful East Coker, there’s something rather lovely about a proper country pub on a rainy day. Come through the door, find yourself a comfortable corner, order your favourite drink and settle in for a while.

Whether you’re escaping the rain after a walk, meeting friends for lunch, joining us for dinner or simply fancy an afternoon pint, you don’t need sunshine to enjoy The Helyar Arms.

We’re incredibly proud to have The Helyar Arms featured in Somerset Life, sharing a little of our story, our history and the people behind the pub. ❤️

This is what makes this place so special to us, from keeping the character of a historic country pub alive, to creating somewhere that welcomes locals, visitors, walkers, cyclists and dogs alike.

And really, that’s what The Helyar Arms is all about.

A proper Somerset pub. A warm welcome. Home-cooked food made with local produce. A beautiful garden. A roaring fire when the weather turns. And, on a Sunday, a proper roast with all the trimmings. 🍽️🔥

The weekend might not quite be here yet, but that doesn’t mean you have to wait until Friday to enjoy yourself.

Thursday evenings at The Helyar Arms are made for switching off, good food from the kitchen, your favourite drink at the bar and the relaxed atmosphere of a proper country pub in the heart of East Coker.

Bring the family, meet a friend, bring the dog or simply pop in on your way home. No big occasion needed.

Stay a little longer… 🏡

Some places are made for rushing through. The Helyar Arms isn’t one of them.

Come for lunch and linger over a drink. Spend a sunny afternoon in the garden. Enjoy a proper meal, then forget about the journey home altogether and settle into one of our comfortable rooms for the night.

There’s plenty to enjoy in and around beautiful East Coker, whether you’re visiting for the first time, exploring the Somerset countryside or simply fancy a little escape from everyday life.

🏡 IF THESE WALLS COULD TALK…

The Helyar Arms has seen generations come and go, but its place at the heart of East Coker has remained.

For many years, people have walked through these doors to meet friends, share a meal, raise a glass, celebrate an occasion or simply enjoy the company of others. The world outside has changed enormously, but there’s something rather special about knowing that people were gathering here long before any of us were.

That history is part of the character you still feel today, in the old building, its traditional features and, most importantly, the sense of community that continues to fill it.

We’re proud to be part of the next chapter, welcoming familiar faces and new visitors and continuing a tradition that has lasted for generations.

Some things are worth holding on to. ❤️
