The lineup for Writtle Jazz Festival 2025 just keeps getting better and the headline this year is 'BRIT FUNK ASSOCIATION'!

The Brit Funk Association features a fluid 10 piece collective of musicians, with a core of trumpet player Kenny Wellington, guitar player Breeze McKrieth and saxophonist and flautist David Baptiste of Beggar & Co and former founder members of the original Light of the World lineup, Patrick McLean saxophonist and vocalist from the original lineup of Hi Tension that recorded the first album and hit singles Hi Tension and British Hustle.

Audiences have been thrilled as the musicians come together and perform tracks from the extensive back catalogue tracks of The Official Chart hit recordings from the Top 40 such as "Time”, “Im So Happy" and “I Shot The Sheriff” by Light of the World, "Somebody (Help Me Out)"and Mule Chant Number 2 by Beggar & Co, "Hi-Tension"and "British Hustle", the classics by Hi Tension ‘’ Always There” by Incognito/Ronnie Laws as well as other classic tracks by the bands such as "There's a Reason", ""London Town", "Nature Boy", "Everyday" , and some of the great music that inspired them by bands like Kool & The Gang, The Blackbyrds and others of the genre.

Saturday 26th July at Writtle Festival will feature Funk 2K who will entertain you with Funk, Soul and Pop music, and will be a great night out and an opportunity to dance your socks off!

They have played with many industry professionals, including Olly Murs, Alexandra O’Neil and Mike Reaves to name a few and, with over 15 years of experience, they really know how to entertain!

Their repertoire consists of funk, disco, soul, pop, and a little rock ‘n’ roll.

Writtle Festival brings together a plethora of musical genres this year and the weekend of July 25th - 27th begins on Friday 25th July with an exquisite Classical Concert.

The evening will feature Elodie Chousmer-Howelles on Violin, Pianist Stella Marie Lorenz and Cellist Satin Chousmer-Howelles.
They will present an evening of musical delights from composers including Wieniawski, Bonis, Gershwin, Clarke, Gardel and many more!

We will be bringing a taste of 'Strictly come dancing' with Paul Louis and his partner Alex from https://www.salsadlite.co.uk performing a tango to 'Gardel's Por Una Cabeza'!

This year's Writtle Jazz Festival lineup is incredible....

Steely Jazz (Led by Chris Ingham)
The songs of Walter Becker and Donald Fagen, aka Steely Dan, stood alone in 1970s rock; cryptic, pungent lyrics and sophisticated, detailed music deeply influenced by, in Becker and Fagen’s own words, “the best jazz players of the ‘50s and ‘60s”.

Guthrie Govan....
known for his work with the bands the Aristocrats, Asia, GPS, the Young Punx and the Fellowship, as well as his solo project Erotic Cakes.

Guthrie will be performing a duo set with Saxophonist Zak Barrett!

Aspyrian....
Formed by three long-standing friends and collaborators, Aspyrian are a London-based trio who seek to explore and unearth the hidden beauty within folk music traditions from different corners of the world. Blending this with jazz and blues influences, and wrapped up into a more modern rock/electronic aesthetic, the group present a sound that is captivating and truly unique.

The Djangoliers....
Taking their cue from Django Reinhardt's war-years line-up, where Hubert Rostaing's clarinet replaced Stephane Grapelli's violin, The Djangoliers specialise in performing music both written and inspired by the late, great French guitarist. As well as performing many of Django's classic arrangements and compositions such as Nuages, Swing 42 and Manoir Des Mes Rêves, they also perform tunes from the more contemporary canon of the style now known as 'Gypsy Jazz'. Expect foot-tapping rhythms and virtuosic flair as well as evocative ballads from guitarists Simon Hurley and Rob Ford with Zak Barrett on Clarinet and Andy Staples on Double Bass.

This year's Writtle Jazz Festival lineup is sensational...

Some of the country's best female Jazz musicians will grace the stages at Writtle Jazz Festival!

The lineup of Bassist Yolanda Charles, Nick Linnik and Hamish Balfour are familiar faces at the Ronnie Scott’s Late Late show. Writing new material for a debut “fusion” album the band
line up is renamed simply INSTRA_MENTALS - formerly (project pH Instra_mentals), this season sees the band’s material separate firmly from the vocal band Project pH and dive solidly into the world of Jazz Fusion.

Nicola Farnon is widely recognised as one of the classiest Jazz and Swing singers and/or double bassists in the UK. Songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Nicola Farnon has a remarkable musical pedigree, both parents being professional classical musicians and her great uncle no less than the late Robert Farnon. Originally raised classically on the cello and the piano, Nicola started singing and playing double bass in her twenties which led to a jazz career spanning 25 years (so far!).

Olivia Cuttill has been surrounded by music from a young age, growing up with both her father and grandfather engrossed in the music scene, as professional musicians with a passion for jazz, funk and soul .The soulful sounds of Stevie Wonder and Donny Hathaway became embedded from an early age, shaping Olivia’s musical endeavours from then on.

The Simone Perks Sextet will be featuring the incredible talents of many of our favourite musicians including Zak Barrett, Sam Edwards and Tony Sandeman. Get ready to be swept away by smooth melodies and vibrant rhythms as we bring the magic of an eclectic set. Expect to participate too! Don’t miss out on this captivating performance.
