WHEN DOES PROTECTING AGAINST NOISE BECOME SILENCING OUR COMMUNITY?

We’re incredibly disappointed to have been told by Warwick District Council that we can no longer hold our Sundown Festival due to concerns around noise.

This is particularly difficult to accept following a weekend that saw our community come together and raise almost £1,000 for The Myton Hospices… an incredible local charity that means so much to so many people in our area.

We completely appreciate that, for some of our immediate neighbours, outdoor live music may have been heard. We don’t dismiss those concerns. But we do think some perspective is important.

The Plough & Harrow has held just TWO outdoor music events this year.

Our outdoor live music finishes by 8pm.

These are occasional community events… not something happening every weekend.

And The Plough & Harrow has been serving this community for a very long time, long before many of the homes surrounding the pub were built.

At a time when pubs across the country are fighting to survive, restrictions like this make it increasingly difficult for local pubs to do the very things that keep them at the heart of their communities.

Pubs aren’t just somewhere to buy a pint.

They’re places where people meet, where friendships are made, where local performers get a stage, where communities come together and, in this case, where almost £1,000 was raised for a local hospice.

We want to be good neighbours. We’re more than willing to have sensible conversations about how our events are managed and how we can minimise disruption.

But we also believe there has to be a reasonable balance between protecting residents from excessive noise and allowing a long-standing community pub to hold a small number of responsible, time-limited events each year.

We’re incredibly proud of what Sundown achieved, proud of everyone who supported it and especially proud of the money our community raised for Myton Hospice.

We sincerely hope Warwick District Council will work with us to find a sensible way forward rather than allowing Sundown to disappear altogether.

Because once community events, and the pubs that host them are gone, they’re very difficult to bring back.

We’d genuinely like to hear what our community thinks.

If anyone has any advice, experience or thoughts on how we can move forward, they would be very gratefully received. Please comment below, drop us a message or come and have a chat with us at the pub.

We don’t want a fight. We just want a fair and sensible way forward that works for our neighbours, our pub and our community. 🍻💕

UPDATE ALL: We've changed the date, as been made aware that Radford was doing theirs our original date. Also we might have a sponsor for the prize fund, so scarecrow entrees will drop down to £5 once we fully confirm it. And we've got a Farmer that will supply hay free of charge. COME ON WHITNASH - WE NEED YOU TO MAKE THESE!!!

🌾 WHITNASH… THE SCARECROW TRAIL IS ON! 🌾

You asked for it… so we're doing it! 🙌

Following the brilliant response to our little idea, The Plough & Harrow is officially launching the WHITNASH SCARECROW TRAIL!

📅 SATURDAY 16TH & SUNDAY 17TH OCTOBER

And now we need YOU to help us fill Whitnash with scarecrows!

📖🌾 THIS YEAR'S THEME:
ONCE UPON A SCARECROW…

👨‍👩‍👧 Families
🏡 Neighbours
🏫 Schools
🤝 Community groups
🏪 Local businesses

EVERYONE is invited to get involved!

🌾 ENTER A SCARECROW — £10

Your £10 entry fee will help fund our prize pot, with CASH PRIZES for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. 🏆

We'll be promoting the trail across the local area too, encouraging the general public to grab a map, get out around Whitnash and discover all your brilliant creations.

Need hay? You can source your own, or we're looking at arranging some for entrants to purchase at an additional cost — more details to follow.

🗺️ THEN IT'S OVER TO THE PUBLIC…

Trail maps will be available from The Plough & Harrow for just £2.

Follow the trail, find the scarecrows and vote for your favourite! Drop your votes into The Plough & Harrow, The Hodcarrier or Whitnash Sports & Social.

💛 AND WE WANT TO DO SOME GOOD ALONG THE WAY…

Proceeds from our trail maps will support a LOCAL charity, keeping the money raised right here in our community.

We're currently considering Helping Hands Community Project... but we'd love to hear your thoughts. Is there a local cause you'd love to see the trail support?

🎆 AND THE WINNERS…
Will be revealed at The Plough & Harrow's FIREWORKS NIGHT!
