An End of an Era: 103 Years of Community Spirit
It is with heavy hearts that we share this final update.
For those who attended our recent meetings, you will know that the New Hartley Residents Club, as a community and voluntary committee-led organization, is coming to an end.
In March, we began legal proceedings following the eviction of the business with the incredible support of donations from our community. However, as the process unfolded, it became clear that the costs to re-enter, let alone buy back the club would likely reach hundreds of thousands of pounds. Simply put, the club does not have the funds for a fight of that magnitude.
There are whispers that the building may reopen as soon as next week. We want to be clear: this will not be under the management of the voluntary committee. While the building may open its doors again under new ownership, the "New Hartley Club" as we have known it since 1923, a community-run institution for over a century, is closing its final chapter.
Since 1923, this club has survived and thrived through generations. We know so many of you hold memories within these walls that will be cherished for years to come.
We want to extend a massive thank you to every single person who played a part in our 103-year history:
Our Staff: The bar teams and glass collectors who kept things moving.
The Committee: Every member, past and present, who gave their time for free.
The Music: A special thanks anyone who has performed in our bar or function room, creating some of the most memorable nights in the area.
The Members: Every customer who ever walked through the door.
We’ve had it all at the club. While it is a true shame it has ended in this way, it has been an absolute blast.
This will be our final post on this page. Thank you for following, interacting, and sharing your lives with us for generations.
