An End of an Era: 103 Years of Community Spirit

It is with heavy hearts that we share this final update.

For those who attended our recent meetings, you will know that the New Hartley Residents Club, as a community and voluntary committee-led organization, is coming to an end.

In March, we began legal proceedings following the eviction of the business with the incredible support of donations from our community. However, as the process unfolded, it became clear that the costs to re-enter, let alone buy back the club would likely reach hundreds of thousands of pounds. Simply put, the club does not have the funds for a fight of that magnitude.

There are whispers that the building may reopen as soon as next week. We want to be clear: this will not be under the management of the voluntary committee. While the building may open its doors again under new ownership, the "New Hartley Club" as we have known it since 1923, a community-run institution for over a century, is closing its final chapter.

Since 1923, this club has survived and thrived through generations. We know so many of you hold memories within these walls that will be cherished for years to come.

We want to extend a massive thank you to every single person who played a part in our 103-year history:

Our Staff: The bar teams and glass collectors who kept things moving.

The Committee: Every member, past and present, who gave their time for free.

The Music: A special thanks anyone who has performed in our bar or function room, creating some of the most memorable nights in the area.

The Members: Every customer who ever walked through the door.

We’ve had it all at the club. While it is a true shame it has ended in this way, it has been an absolute blast.

This will be our final post on this page. Thank you for following, interacting, and sharing your lives with us for generations.

📢 GoFundMe & Club Update:

Thanks to your shares, donations and encouragement, the fund has now passed £6,900 - we’re genuinely overwhelmed.

We know our quieter online presence has raised questions, but while the legal process is ongoing we must avoid sharing anything that could affect our chances of reopening the club.

Please be assured: your donations are being used for solicitor fees, and if anything is left over, will go directly towards reopening. We’ll share updates as soon as we are able.

What we can confirm is already public: the club was locked on 17 March, and after asking for support on 21 March, the community helped us reach our £5,000 goal in a single day. Those funds are supporting the ongoing legal advice.

Thank you again for standing with us - you’re truly showing how much of a community asset this club is, and what a real shame it would be to lose it.

The GoFundMe will remain open for anyone who wishes to donate as we do not yet know the final solicitor costs.

Wow... Unbelievable effort so far..... What a fantastic village we live in with fantastic friends connected to us.... The go fund me page has been superb (it's still open by the way as will still need your help so every penny counts.. So please keep sharing or donating )... But huge huge thanks to everyone..👏👏👏. As for updates.. We'll only be putting odd one on as there's nothing really to say as it's in the hands of solicitors to try and make progress .... So thank you for your all support as we try to get back in and open . Unfortunately it won't be this week...so please be patient..and keep everything crossed thanks ❤️

📢 GoFundMe Update:

We are officially sitting at £5,673 on the GoFundMe, and we are honestly lost for words.

A massive thank you to every single person who has donated or shared so far. Every penny will be going toward the solicitor fees to give our club the fighting chance it deserves. As mentioned on the GoFundMe, if the solicitor fees are less than the money raised, anything leftover will go straight into getting the club back on its feet.

This isn't just about a building; it’s about a community that refuses to lose its local. It’s clear how much this place means to all of you.

Please keep sharing the link, every bit helps.

New Hartley Residents Club needs YOUR SUPPORT.

From meeting Santa to the legendary band nights and our summer BBQs, New Hartley Residents Club has been where memories have been made for generations. Right now, those doors are closed and we need your help to get them open again.

A GoFundMe has been created to help cover the rising solicitor fees needed to fight for the Club. Whether it’s the price of a pint or a round of bingo books, every little bit helps us protect the beating heart of our village.

Please donate if you can, but more importantly, please share this post so everyone sees it!
