Whitby restaurant Fisherman’s Wife has been named Best Coastal Fish and Chips in England at the inaugural English Fish & Chip Awards. 🐟🍟

The award was presented last night in Manchester, celebrating the people and businesses who help make Britain’s fish and chip trade world-class.

Located on Khyber Pass in the beautiful seaside town of Whitby, Fisherman’s Wife is well known for its traditional fish and chips, fresh seafood dishes, and stunning sea views.

The team thanked their hardworking staff, trusted suppliers, and loyal customers for their continued support following the win.

A fantastic achievement for this much-loved Whitby seafood restaurant — and another reason to visit the coast for one of Britain’s most iconic meals. 🥇

New menus celebrate local flavours at The White Horse & Griffin. 😋🍷🦪

There’s a fresh reason to visit one of Whitby’s most historic spots, as The White Horse & Griffin on Church Street has unveiled its new menus.

Guests can now enjoy a refreshed selection of dishes, from hearty breakfasts and relaxed brunches to fresh seafood, Sunday lunches, and seasonal evening dining. The new menus celebrate the flavours of the Yorkshire Coast, with fresh, local Whitby produce used wherever possible.

Whether visitors are stopping by for locally sourced fish, the much-loved oyster bar, a traditional Sunday roast, or something lighter, there’s something to suit every appetite.

Located in the heart of Whitby, The White Horse & Griffin is more than just a place to dine. Built in 1681 by Sir Hugh Cholmley, the building has a rich history, having once served as an inn, a stagecoach stop, and a meeting place for explorers including Captain James Cook and William Scoresby. Charles Dickens is also said to have stayed there.

As Living North Magazine wrote in 2014:

“If there is one hotel and restaurant in Whitby that captures the heritage, ambience and essence of this coastal town, it is the White Horse & Griffin.”
