Casual / Zero-Hours Funeral Operatives
Drivers • Bearers • Out-of-Hours Transfer Team
Groves Family Funeral Directors is looking to expand our team of casual funeral operatives to support our funeral services and our 24-hour bringing-into-care service.
This is a zero-hours, on-call position, making it suitable for someone looking for flexible work alongside other employment or retirement.
The Role
Duties may include:
* Bringing the deceased into our care from private homes, hospitals, nursing homes and hospices.
* Participating in an out-of-hours on-call rota covering evenings, nights and weekends.
* Driving funeral vehicles.
* Acting as a coffin bearer during funeral services.
* Assisting with the preparation and presentation of funeral vehicles.
* Supporting the funeral team with general operational duties as required.
What We’re Looking For
This role is not simply about lifting or driving. It requires compassion, professionalism and the ability to remain calm and respectful in emotionally difficult situations.
Applicants should:
* Be reliable and punctual.
* Present themselves professionally.
* Be physically fit and capable of carrying coffins as part of a team.
* Hold a full UK driving licence.
* Be comfortable working evenings, nights and weekends on an on-call basis.
* Treat every deceased person with dignity and every family with kindness and respect.
* Be able to work both independently and as part of a close-knit team.
Previous funeral experience is welcomed but not essential, as full training will be provided for the right candidates.
