INTRODUCING ABK
ABK has been brewing beer in Kaufbeuren, Bavaria, for more than 700 years, with its history dating back to 1308.
The brewery is rooted in one of Germany’s oldest brewing traditions, using quality malt, hops and pure water to create classic Bavarian beers.
Remarkably, Kaufbeuren introduced its own brewing standards in 1325 — nearly two centuries before Bavaria’s famous Beer Purity Law.

🍺 ABK dates back to 1308, making it one of Germany’s historic breweries.
🌾 In 1325, Kaufbeuren’s brewers established rules governing the ingredients used to make beer.
🇩🇪 Bavaria introduced the famous Reinheitsgebot — the German Beer Purity Law — in 1516.
💧 The original law allowed beer to be brewed using only barley, hops and water. Yeast was formally recognised later as its role in fermentation became understood.
🥖 One reason for restricting ingredients was to keep wheat and rye available for bread making.
⏳ Kaufbeuren’s brewing rules pre-date the famous Bavarian purity law by around 191 years.
