We are mixing things up for our Wednesday quiz to raise money for a great cause, and make some space on the pumps for Thursday’s big Meet the Brewer & Tap Takeover with Elusive Brewing!

£4.90 CASK PINTS (Wednesday Only): Come down tomorrow and help us drink the cellar dry for £4.90 a pint, so we are ready for Elusive’s takeover!

THE CHARITY QUIZ SHEET (Wed–Sun): Instead of our usual sit-down format, we’ve put together a mammoth paper quiz sheet featuring 56 questions and a picture round. You can complete it in your own time at your own pace while you enjoy your pint.

How to Play: Grab a sheet from the bar anytime from opening tomorrow until 9 PM on Sunday. (Note: Quiz sheets must be completed in the pub!)

Cost: £2 per person (100% of the pot goes to Watford Foodbank).

Teams: Max 6 people per team.

The Prize: The winning team scores a £30 bar tab!

Winners: Hand in your answers to the bar; we will mark the scores and announce the winners on Monday.

Great beer, tough trivia, and it all helps the local community. See you tomorrow! 👇

It’s been a horrible sticky week!

Thankfully, today is still nice and warm, but the heavy humidity has finally gone.

If you're looking to celebrate surviving the heat with a different kind of sticky situation, we’ve got just the thing waiting in the fridge: PVA by Left Handed Giant.

This is a stupidly thick DIPA. To get that guaranteed thickness, the brewers loaded the malt bill with porridge oats, rolled oats, and flaked spelt, putting the beer through a double-mash and double-centrifuge process. On the hop side, it's triple dry-hopped with a heavy-hitting blend of Nelson Sauvin, Nectaron, Krush, Amarillo, and Citra.

Expect it to smell like grapefruit and nectarine, followed by strong, sweet tropical fruit flavours like peach and mandarin orange. It all comes together with that massive, thick body and a nice fluffy head.

Well, we're glad that's over! Back to normal tomorrow with lovely cask beer and great keg.See you tomorrow!

We've finally got an engineer booked tomorrow, so we should be able to open Thursday.

We could have risked tomorrow, but want to focus on making sure the beer is up to our usual standard!

See you Thursday (please come in!)

UPDATE: ELUSIVE TAP TAKEOVER & MEET THE BREWER

We are incredibly sorry to mess with your plans this week, but we are postponing our Elusive Tap Takeover and Meet the Brewer event by exactly one week!

The New Date: Thursday, 4th June. Andy will be with us from 5pm!

Why the change? We are still having issues with our dispense system, and as always, want to make sure we are serving beers at their best. So, we’ve decided to push our delivery back to next week. We cannot rush on our cask in one day, and think their beers deserve better!

The Good News: Andy will still be coming down on Thursday, 4th June to meet you all and chat about all things beer, and the full Elusive tap list will be pouring perfectly all across that weekend!

Please help us out: If you know anyone who was planning to come down this Thursday, please tag them below or share this post with them so nobody makes a wasted trip!

Thank you for understanding our dedication to the perfect pint. We cannot wait to see you next week to try some Elusive 10th birthday beers

We were planning to open today to sell some of our current cask to make room for our Thursday tap takeover, but we are having dispense issues with the extreme heat.

Hope we can get it sorted tomorrow!

Sorry for any inconvenience.

Tap List: Loaded. 🎮🍺

The countdown is officially on for next Thursday, 28th May, when Andy Parker from takes over our lines for a massive Meet the Brewer night!

Swipe through to see the full lineup we have locked in for the weekend. We've got a great mix of crisp pales, deep/dank West Coasts, and exclusive 10th-birthday collaboration brews that you do not want to miss. There will be four cask on, with two in reserve for the weekend!

On Cask:

Yellows (5.6% NE Pale): A pillowy soft, juicy New England style pale packed with Citra and Dolcita hops. (10th Birthday Collab with Dark Revolution & Bookshop Alehouse)

Tasman (6% West Coast IPA): Superdelic, Nectaron, Simcoe, and Columbus hops combine to deliver a heavy blend of tropical fruit notes balanced by a deep, dank bitterness. (10th Birthday Collab with Two Flints & Hop, Burns & Black)

Urban Haze (4.5% Hazy Pale): A highly crushable pale brewed with 2026 Motueka and Nectaron hops. Expect prominent notes of lime zest, nectarine, and overripe mango with a soft, gentle bitterness.

Shapeshifter (Session Pale): A clean, hop-forward, and incredibly easy-drinking session pale brewed with Krush, Amarillo, and Simcoe hops. (Collab with The Nag's Head Reading & North Riding)

Amber River (4.8% American Amber): A hoppy take on a classic American Amber. Balances light caramel and subtle toasty malts with bright hop notes of pineapple and watermelon. (Collab with Indie Rabble, Best Cask & EUSC)

Flock (Pale Ale): A bright, vibrant pale ale featuring Centennial and Nelson Sauvin hops. Expect layers of pithy grapefruit and soft pine, finished with a punchy kick of gooseberry and passionfruit.

On Keg:

Oregon Trail (5.8% West Coast IPA): Elusive’s undisputed flagship. Heavily piney and resinous with a sharp, pronounced bitterness and a crisp, clean finish. (Winner of CAMRA’s 2025 Champion IPA)

Andy will be in the building from 5pm on Thursday night to chat all things beer, homebrewing, and 10 years of Elusive. The beers will be pouring all weekend, but Thursday is your chance to meet the brains behind the brew.

Oakham Ales fans, this one is for you!

White Dwarf has just landed on the handpumps! If you have been drinking real ale for a while, you will likely remember this absolute legend of the Oakham universe. It originally earned its reputation as a beloved core beer in their lineup, but today it returns as a highly anticipated, limited seasonal release, and we are incredibly excited to be pouring it.

This 4.3% Golden Ale is a light, predominantly English-hopped brew with a fantastic transatlantic twist. It perfectly blends UK Pioneer, Goldings, and Challenger hops with a touch of US Cascade to create something truly special. When you take a sip, expect bright, zesty fruit flavours that shine right the way through to a crisp, beautifully dry, and thirst-quenching finish. It is the ultimate refreshing pint, and because it is a seasonal brew, it will not be around forever.

Come down to the pub, grab a glass, and welcome back an old favourite.

The weather's looking a bit 💩. Rainy days are made for bitters, and this one from is a good one. All the plumminess you'd expect from a Sussex Best Bitter, with a smooth bitter finish.

It's gluten free, and vegan, too! A beer for everyone.

Grab your brolly! ☔
