As a child of the 80s, electronic music played a large part in Lewis’ upbringing particularly Jean-Michel Jarre’s Oxygene album. Fast forward into the mid 90s and he had become hooked on the sounds of Trance. This lead to the natural progression of getting some basic CD decks whilst still at school and getting his hands on as many tunes as possible.
Still too young to hit the clubs he immersed himself in as many mix compilations as possible. A name that always stood out in these mixes was Mauro Picotto. It was Picotto’s 2001 compilation Metamorphose that became his proper introduction to Techno. Artists such as Chris Liebing, Speedy J, Luke Slater, Thomas Schumacher & Ian Void featured on that album which guided him down a Techno rabbit hole that he’s never really come out of.
As his first love of Trance went stale in the mid 00s, Lewis turned his full attention to the other constant in his life for the previous 6 years. Techno. Still a clubber first with DJing just a hobby, he attended events all over the UK and Europe to expose himself to as much of the scene as possible. I Love Techno in Belgium, Awakenings, Timewarp Germany and regular trips to Fabric and London Warehouse Events were all on the agenda. Influences around this time came from across the Techno spectrum with the CLR podcast introducing him to emerging artists at the time like Tommy Four Seven, Drumcell, Perc & Gary Beck.
The time consuming reality of life and starting a family meant DJing and clubbing took a bit of a back seat around 2014 but after 5 years of little activity, the 1210s and the vinyl came back out.
June 2023 saw the launch of a new vinyl only night called ‘Timewarp’ focusing on Trance, Hard House & Techno. Based in his home town of Bournemouth, Timewarp encouraged aspiring DJs to bring a demo CD along with a view to playing at future nights. Lewis did exactly that and after playing at their next 2 events, secured himself a residency. Whilst he plays across all 3 genres it’s his Techno sets that have drawn the most attention, particularly from his peers. A surprise digital set at the start of May upstairs at Electric Boulevard for Timewarp’s 3rd Birthday turned a few heads & was enough to convince Lewis that there’s space for him to express himself as a DJ in both the analog & the digital world.
