The Pilot Boat (aka The Boat House) is an historic gastro pub in the heart of New Brighton serving fine beers, wines and spirits and tasty locally sourced food. Major rebuilding later took place in 1876 when the building was enlarged and only the original corner entrance door remained in place. This was a real working men’s club with sawdust on the floors and gas lamps to the walls. The pub was a

meeting place for fisherman and the working class of the district where they would meet for a glass of ale and a good chat. We can only imagine the tales that were told as these hardworking men took a drink. The pub was named on account of the small boat belonging to the ‘pilotage’, which was kept at the back of the inn. The post-mortems of those poor souls found drowned in the river were also held in the cellar of this very pub. It is thought that Jake Bolt enjoyed his last glass of ale at the Pilot boat before...
