Ever looked up inside the Leeds Corn Exchange? 👀

Built in 1864, its iconic domed roof was designed to create one huge open trading floor with no internal columns, allowing grain merchants to do business beneath one of Britain’s most impressive Victorian market halls.

Today, it’s home to independent shops, but its history is still written into every detail of the building.

Yorkshire has a restaurant that TripAdvisor named the best in the world. Another sits sixth globally. Neither is in a city centre.

The highest-rated restaurants in Yorkshire, according to millions of traveller reviews, turn up in market squares, residential suburbs, and Dales villages that most visitors never reach.

An Ethiopian kitchen in Wakefield. A Sardinian family bistro in a York suburb. A 16th-century farmhouse in the North York Moors where the chef grows most of what he cooks.
These are the places TripAdvisor's data keeps pointing to. Full list in the comments below.

Nine miles from Whitby sits a village that literally fell into the sea.

In 1682, the original village slid into the sea in a single night. Every resident escaped. They rebuilt on the same hillside, slightly further south, and Runswick Bay has quietly existed ever since.

The red-roofed cottages below the clifftop still have no road access. At low tide, the shale opens up to Jurassic fossils. There is a sea cave at the base of the cliffs where Victorians brought sick children and shouted at a boggart.

Nine miles from Whitby. A fraction of the crowds. Full guide in the comments.
