One of Wakefield city centre’s most distinctive historic pubs is receiving a major £100,000 restoration.
The work at 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐑𝐨𝐜𝐤 𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬 𝐒𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐞 is focused on carefully restoring the building rather than changing its character. Its famous Art Nouveau tiled frontage is being cleaned and repaired, while windows are repainted, old fixing holes filled and surrounding historic paving restored.
The transformation comes ahead of the pub’s three-day beer festival from Friday 18 to Sunday 20 September, featuring more than 50 ales from over 20 breweries.
It’s fantastic to see real investment being made in one of Wakefield’s traditional pubs while protecting the features that make it so special. Who’s looking forward to seeing the finished result?
