Rochdale Model Railway Group a small group of finescale modellers. We don’t have a club layout any more, but instead collaborate and help out on each other’s projects and layouts.

Rochdale Model Railway Group is a small band of predominantly 4mm modellers, although we do have one member who professes to model things that he can see. We meet every Wednesday night 8pm to 10pm in Norden, Rochdale, and retire afterwards to a local hostelry to chew the fat of that night’s meeting and indulge in a beer or two. Club members currently have 8 exhibition layouts out on the circuit, and several more are on the stocks and at the planning stage. Club nights are spent doing individual projects – the fact that there is a great deal of expertise about whilst doing these projects is a great help. We have a wide and eclectic range of skills and interests, although matters Great Western tend to be frowned upon or tolerated at a distance – and there’s plenty of exhibition layout experience in the group. Our annual exhibition is now held in April – a movable feast around 3 weekends all dependent upon when Easter falls. Over the years it has gained a healthy reputation for showing some of the best layouts in the country. The accent is on quality and at Rochdale show you won’t see the same old year after year procession of the same local and club layouts. The successful running of the show relies heavily on a substantial number of country members who have been recruited over the years, quite often because they were stood in the wrong place at the wrong time (for them)!

After. recent views and coments to this page, a notice to say that RMRG still exist, but we are now just a bunch of friends that meet every week at club members homes . We will not be holding any further exhibition or looking for new members. Club members layouts will be out at other exhibitions though.

Prompted by a query, the Rochdale Group is still up and running. However as we are meeting half of the time in members homes and not our club room, membership is by invitation only! We do not have plans to hold an exhibition in 2022 at the moment, but probably will in 2023 when group members will have new layouts on show.

Bit of a club update. Due to lock down and social distancing we have not met since 11th March and unless things change remarkably and our meeting room is available and it's safe for us to meet, then it's not likely we will be meeting for some time yet. The busy schedule we had of taking our layouts to shows has been decimated and its certainly going to be next year before we do another, assuming it's safe to do so.

It's not all gloom and doom though as a lot of progress has been made at home with new layouts and models. Hopefully we will post few pics of what members have been up to since lock down.

I'm sorry to say that due to the current Coronavirus outbreak our exhibition on 18/19 April is cancelled. All being well we will be back next year.

We are stand C32 but not where the floor plan says, due to a c**k up placing us in a spot where you could only see the short side of the layout! We are now where C47/C48 were on the floor plan.
