Linkwood 17yo 🥃 finished for 3-and-a-half years (so double-maturation really) in a sweet, ripe-fruity Italian Picolit dessert w**e soaked cask 🍋🍏🍍🥭.

It’s the coming together of one of my personal favourite distilleries and the best “finishing” cask I’ve worked with for the last 3-4 years, a gorgeous white dessert w**e (slightly Sauternes-like but in much smaller production) from Friuli-Venezia Giulia in Italy’s north-east 🇮🇹

Bottled last week alongside a few other gems that we’ll be profiling and into select retail partners over the next fortnight.

After a bit of a hiatus in our operations (and thank you 🙏🏻 to our small band of followers who’ve encouraged us along) it is time to introduce our new brand hero 🦸

A figure of quiet folklore. A humble and handsome Highland soul. An eccentric who excelled in all things sport and the outdoors yet seldom travelled beyond the secret pools he fished on the River Spey.

A brand with a proud and passionate social purpose that we will be announcing very shortly.

Inspired by the legend of Spinner’s unique ‘three rod’ approach to salmon fishing 🎣 🎣 🎣 , we are launching with three delicious new single casks and a small batch Single Malt celebrating whiskies from Speyside and the Highlands with a slightly eccentric twist.

We’ll be announcing our first new release tomorrow and it is genuinely one of most deliciously unique and super-fruity drams to come out of our Cellar.

Ever tried Single malt matured in ex red-w**e barriques? 🍇

Longrow Red perhaps? Maybe a Dalmore Cigar Malt? Bunnahabhain Moine 2008 Red W**e Cask possibly?

Finding one, like our Aultmore 13yo, fully aged (rather than “finished”) in the red w**e barrel is pretty rare but well worth checking out if you like notes of ripe red fruits, dark chocolate and warming baking spice. Such a well balanced dram and perfect for a breezy Autumn weekend.

Searching for Pintail? Just look for the duck 🦆

The marketeers of 1930 understood the power of distinctive and instantly recognisable branding. The Pintail duck (an elusive dabbling duck named after its pointed tail feather) appears in flight on every bottle today just as it did when Matthew Gloag & Son first launched this iconic brand in 1931.

And why try to fix what isn’t broken?

This Strathmill 15 years old - Refill Oloroso Sherry Cask Finish is a triumph in the gentler side of sherry maturation.

Light, fruity and fresh with a delicate oily texture, we wanted to elevate the signature Strathmill character, not mask it and took the view that a fresh ex-sherry Hogshead might do the latter.

Consider refill cask finishes if you prefer a wh**ky that offers complexity but hasn’t surrendered all of its distillate style to the barrel.

This has bags of refreshing stone fruit notes, spiced toasted nut mix, fresh herbs, an underlying toffee sweetness and that delicious olive oil mouthfeel.

Is there a weightier wh**ky out there than a Mortlach (“the beast of Dufftown”) spending a full 19 years ageing in a first-fill Oloroso Sherry Butt?

We doubt it and this very limited release from a few years ago had us in full-on ‘beast mode’.

While this a style that we particularly enjoy, we have been recently exploring a more traditional style of Single Malt, where cask influence takes a back seat to a more distillate-led character….with some incredible releases to come later this year.
