Do you want to back your favourite venue, help your high street and support local jobs? Then sign our petition to lower the rate of VAT for hospitality to 10%.

Our pubs, restaurants, cafes, hotels, nightclubs and many more, are at the heart of our communities.

They bring people together and bring life to our cities, towns and villages, but they're under huge pressure from rising costs.

In the UK, you pay one of the highest VAT rates in Europe. 20% extra in VAT for your meal out or stay away. In France, Spain and Italy, it's 10%. In Germany? 7%.

Our message to Government is simple. Let's stand together to say VAT at 10% is fair for hospitality.

‼️FIGHT FOR YOUR PUBS ‼️ We’ve always been clear, whether we own a pub for 20 years plus or operate a pub for 6 months, we are only ever the custodians!! The clue is in the title PUBLIC HOUSE, a pub belongs to the people, the community hub, where all comers are equal, where the local economy and neighbourliness thrives, where isolation is tackled, where the young person builds confidence via their first job or maybe their first partner!

Pretty much every single person that walks through our doors leaves feeling a little lighter and a little brighter! Yet successive governments are turning the lights off, physically as well as metaphorically! Where does it end?

Please keep visiting, encourage others to do the same, and please contact your local MP and tell them you want your pubs to survive!!

Pubs matter because people matter!

Enough is enough! TIME PLEASE LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!

It’s not just about the Great British Pint and the Great British Pub. It’s about protecting our culture, our communities, our togetherness and neighbourliness. It’s our identities, our release, our social well-being and mental health. Where we all come together irrespective of beliefs, gender, race or religion - the pub is the leveller. Where all are welcome, where the weight of life’s woes is lifted as you enter and every single one of us feels a little lighter and brighter when we leave.

Society as we know it has been eroded for far too long and something has got to give. The Great British Pub is the antidote but we are being Taxed out of existence. Many towns and villages have already been pushed over the brink and lost their last pub. We cannot lose one more!

⏱️ TIME FOR ACTION: Please contact your local MP ahead of the autumn budget, tool kits and templates can be found on the UKHospitality website, but our plea is to take a moment to contact your MP and speak from the heart. Mention the tax burden and the campaign but otherwise tell them what the Pub means to you! Proper people speaking up is our best hope of action! It’s time we all did more to protect your best times! Thank you.

⚠️ Nearly 75% of pre-tax profits go straight to the Treasury

We’re calling on the Government to take action in the upcoming Budget:
✔️ Cut VAT for hospitality
✔️ Lower business rates to revive high streets
✔️ Fix NICs to protect jobs

Following the UK’s ratification of UNESCO's Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage, we call on the Government to recognise production and serving of traditional British cask ale as Intangible Cultural Heritage.
