On 18th and 22nd July the wonderful Edinburgh Quartet returns to Ullapool with two concerts featuring Schubert, Haydn, Beamish and other composers in a summer Schubert Fest!

Musicians: Catherine Marwood, Gongbo Jiang, Mark Bailey and Sadie Fields. The Quartet will be joined by Rosie Staniforth (oboe) and Clare Juan (cello).

Let us know by the end of June if you fancy joining us for Theatre & Chat at the Macphail!

Cold feet about going to the theatre? Feeling in at the deep end? Can't find the right theatre-buddy to go with you?

Theatre&Chat is a new group led by Lorraine Thomson. Participants receive three free tickets to a selection of theatre shows at the Macphail in 2026. Come along to the theatre, meet a few others, and stay afterwards for a friendly cup of tea and a chance to chat about the show (all opinions are welcome!)

Open to anyone 18+ who hasn't been to the theatre in the last 3 years. Numbers are limited: first come, first served. For more info or to sign up, please contact Lorraine ([email protected]) or Joanna ([email protected])

💼 Circus theatre company Delighters presents JOURNEY, a stunning, emotionally resonant ride through stories of change, challenge, and connection. Journeying to Ullapool on Friday 10th July!

Cirqulation is Scotland’s travelling contemporary circus ensemble, delivering a vibrant showcase of thrilling, theatrical circus acts performed by some of the country’s most exciting artists.

Delighters is a Circus Theatre company based in Edinburgh, creating colourful, multi-artform performances since 2008. Their shows blend circus, dance, puppetry, object manipulation, live music, and visual storytelling; weaving magic, mischief, and moments that make you think.

This performance is supported by Creative Scotland's Touring Fund.

Are you getting ready too? Tuesday 16th June at the Macphail: our next screening with National Theatre Live is The Pl***oy of the Western World, a darkly funny tale full to the brim with secrets.

Éanna Hardwicke (The Sixth Commandment) joins Nicola Coughlan (Bridgerton) and Siobhán McSweeney (Derry Girls) in John Millington Synge’s riveting play of youth and self-discovery.

Pegeen Flaherty’s life is turned upside down when a young man walks into her pub claiming that he’s killed his father. Instead of being shunned, the killer becomes a local hero and begins to win hearts, that is until a second man unexpectedly arrives on the scene…

The Starling Café is back at the Macphail on Thursday 9th July with guest Malini Chakrabarty and 'The Art of Coming Home to Yourself'.

How can creativity support healing in our bodies, our communities, and across generations? We'll touch on ideas of intersectionality and diversity, the nervous system and how art-making can help us move through difficult feelings and experiences. Expect a warm, reflective space, not a lecture.

Malini Chakrabarty is an award-winning multidisciplinary artist, founder of Art of Birdie Studio, and a UNESCO RIELA (Refugee Integration through Education, Languages and the Arts) Affiliated Artist. Her work sits at the intersection of creativity, healing, and systemic change, exploring how art and storytelling can support communities in processing trauma, belonging, and resilience.

The Starling Café at the Macphail Centre is a relaxed place for ideas, reflection and conversation.

The topics explored in this series include hope, belonging, diversity, resilience and resistance.

The café is open to everyone but places are limited, so we ask that you book in advance.

Option for free entry, though the Starling Cafe depends on contributions to help us cover our costs (see booking page for options; all contributions are warmly appreciated).
