Two more sleeps before Soul on the Square 2026 hits Tyldesley .

The Marquee goes up first thing on Saturday and the DJ’s follow with the decks and Thousands of classic tracks and all on vinyl.

Wigan Casino came alive in 1965 and went through to 1981. The famous
“ALL NIGHTERS” attracted fans from all across the country . Just a few short miles up the road the music exploded and history was being created.

The story is incredible , the music unforgettable and the memories will never die.

I tried to recreate those fabulous times last year to give Tyldesley a taste of what went on in Wigan back in those halcyon days .
With the help of the very best Northern Soul DJs around , we put on an event that the whole town embraced.

I was asked to do it again and so here we are.

THE MARKLAND BAR Tyldesley will be hosting once again the NORTHERN SOUL ON THE SQUARE
TYLDESLEY FESTIVAL.

From 12 noon till late the tunes will play and you are all invited . Come and take to the dance floor or just sit and enjoy the music.

Wristbands at the marquee doors will not only allow you all day entry but will give discounted drinks at the MARKLAND BAR .

It’s going to be an incredible day . Don’t miss it .

What a night last night at The Markland Bar. The one and only El Mocko turned up and delivered .
The passion of the performance was incredible . In the late stage of his career he is still giving it everything and more .

A total showman , a one off , an exhibitionist .

We were brought up together in Tyldesley and shared some fantastic times . He was always going to be different .

I remember he would quite often come out in his mums leather coat because he thought it looked great . He cared not a jot what anyone else thought.
His followers turned up in numbers last night and were treated to classic Mocko. He held them in his hand , they were spellbound and they love their hero and when he shook those hips …. Mind you at least one of them is only two years old and NHS supplied so it should be good .

He was born to be an entertainer , and entertain he did … in bucket loads .

Thanks to everyone for a fantastic night and thanks to Tommy for providing the sound .

Mocko has been keeping us all entertained since turning 13 years of age . I sincerely hope he continues to do so . A top lad and a one off .

El Mocko has left the building … may he come back soon !

Tonight’s the night . Not for the faint- hearted . The one and only Tyldesley legend that is Mocko is performing in THE MARKLAND BAR.

The memories from those incredible years when men were men … and so were the girls !

Meeting up on the Derby street steps , or the Library steps , playing two bounce on Stanley street and cards in the launderette.

Bowie and Slade , Rod Stewart and Michael Jackson …. St Winifred’s school choir… the 70s had them all.

The love stories , the romance ……the chips and scraps from Grime’s chippy.

Knock and run , pogging apples and meeting up with the Little Hulton girls …Be great if they make an appearance …. I’ve had a stair lift fitted just in case !

So it’s on TONIGHT . A return to those halcyon days when everyday felt great to be alive and we were ready to take on the World.
