And so it is time to say goodbye to this chapter in our lives. It’s been an amazing journey we have met so many wonderful people and feel blessed to be part of so many events. Looking back we will have so many memories to look back and we will miss you and all the banter and your family and friends you bring to the pub. Incredibly grateful for your support, without it there would be no village pub. We have been here long enough to see children who were at School with our children grow up, find their path in life and now have children themselves, can’t tell you how good it is to see you all progressing through life. We had a simple goal when we started, of being a nice place to get great beer and really good pub food, and to be a safe welcoming space. We also wanted to support the village, we were involved with fundraising for things in the village before we bought the pub business, and so it was easy to step in and continue to help groups like the PPFA, Community Centre, Pre School and Christmas lights, and they in turn have helped us, it’s good to see all these organisations are thriving with everyones support as they really make our village a special place to live. We had no ambitions for awards, we honestly thought they were beyond us so we were surprised and thrilled to be in the CAMRA guide for 3 years, (many thanks to Treen’s Brewery and Verdant). Amazed to be mentioned in Sainsburys magazine and Usha won also won an award from Asian Restaurant Owners network for innovative Indian cuisine. But the thing that matters the most to us is that we managed after a lot of negotiation to buy the freehold of the pub from one of the big pub companies. Our first 10 years were so hard as a tied pub, it now means it is much easier to survive and succeed in the pub world. We hope you will all give the new tenants Wayne and Michelle as much support as you are able, they are full of energy and ideas and we think you’ll like what they have to offer, we can’t think of another couple we would want to pass the baton on to. Wayne and Michelle we wish you much success and happiness at The Stag. We are hopefully not going far so it’s not good bye but au revoir till next time. If you love Usha’s food, do follow her on Cornish Curry Nights on Facebook and Instagram, this page will stay in the background as a historical record of pub life in Ponsanooth 😊❤️

A walk down memory lane as we sign off about the events we have had at the pub, they have always bought us such joy and hope they have for you also. It’s also a way for us to show the many new people who have moved to the village over the last pandemic years, some of things that happen in the village, many events thave been on standby, as the landscape of hospitality is slowly coming back to normal. There are the regular things we do at the pub such as Wednesday Acoustic Jam night, Stag Hunt Acoustic Jam night, Book Group and the pub quiz, then events through the year such St Patrick’s night, longest Runner Bean, Biggest Onion, Beer Festival, National Football and Rugby matches, Poker nights, Xmas Fair, Apple Day, Gin nights, Christmas Carols, Cornish male Voice Choirs and Harvest Festival. And then the one events such as Poldark night, G for Garry, Bond night, Day of the Dead, Wild West, Pirates, but the one that goes down in history is Allo Allo night, if you haven’t heard of it, you have to ask, it would take too long to tell you on here 😉 Big thank you to everyone who came up with the ideas, many of them from Sarah Benney and friends, and to all who took part, thank you for creating legends we will remember for a long time ❤️ We have a feeling that Wayne and Michelle will have more events planned for you!

You can’t think of The Stag Hunt Inn without thinking of Dylan who arrived as very skinny 2 year old rescue dog. He is now the grand old age of 9 and starting to become a grumpy old dog, so retirement has come at the right time for him and also we can’t afford to replace a 4th sofa for him to sleep on. He arrived with good manners and never climbed on the furniture, to his credit he has been asked by customers to join them on the sofa or even between them when having a meal 🤦🏽‍♀️ and so for the last 5 years he thinks the sofa is his, well done to those of you brave enough to share it with him! He will miss his mini cheddar and pork scratching donars, I fear he may lose weight! Never fear doggie cuddles will be available by the new pub dog who a 2 year old black Labrador called Cosmo, and he is gorgeous and outgoing and he is looking forward to meeting you all 🐕‍🦺 😊

Thank you to the Dora’s and John and Sue, who overcame some challenges with their usual good humour to create a good night and to Wayne and Michelle the soon to be new landlords for running the bar so we could could enjoy being with you. We loved our last Saturday too, so many kind people and just when we closed the doors before midnight there was a hammering on the door by the race night party goers 😂. Chris, Jennet, Jon, Dawn and Ash you have the privilege of being last one’s kicked out by Garry! Not going to be too mushy yet, there are a few more memories to post and people to thank yet before I hibernate this page. Do stay on this page as it’s a great way to access village and pub memories on our Photos tab, you might find yourself there or learn a little history of the village. Wayne and Michelle are on a new page called The Stag Hunt Ponsanooth. I’ll send a link soon.

What I love about this village is there are so many good people doing good things. Give a wave to these lovely people who spend a Saturday or two each each do an amazing job putting up the Christmas lights. We love to keep them going with a tea, coffee, bacon or vegan bap. Thank you. 😊❤️
