For many rural communities, it's not just about food and drink. Community-owned pubs are tackling isolation, supporting wellbeing, creating jobs and safeguarding vital local assets.

📣"They're places where people meet, where people talk, where people connect. In a polarised society, we can't afford to lose those spaces."

Imagine having a place in Semington where there’s always a reason to pop in ❤️

A place for your morning coffee and a chat. Somewhere to meet for lunch with friends. A welcoming space to bring the kids, or the dog. A spot to read, knit, work, catch up or simply take a moment. Somewhere to enjoy a hearty meal after a long winters walk or summer cycle ride. A proper village pub for dinner with the family. And then, when the sun goes down, somewhere for live music, laughter, celebrations and get-togethers. 🤩

That’s our vision for the Somerset Arms. Not just a pub, but a community space where everyone is welcome, at every stage of the day and every stage of life. Whether you’ve walked round the corner or made the journey from afar. A place where neighbours bump into each other, new friendships are made, local groups can meet, events can happen and visitors feel part of the village.

We want to breathe new life into this beautiful old building and create a thriving community hub that we can all be proud of. 🫶

🏡 What does community ownership actually mean?

You may have heard us talking about community ownership, but what does it mean for the Somerset Arms?

Quite simply, it means the community comes together to buy and own the pub. 🍻

By pledging to buy a share, you’re becoming part of a community-owned business, with a stake in a village asset and a say in its future.

Community ownership means:
🤝 Local people having a stake in a local asset
💷 Keeping more of the money generated by the pub within our community
👩‍🍳 Supporting jobs and opportunities for local people
