Register in advance here: https://www.parkrun.org.uk/register/ Tring parkrun is a FREE weekly 5km event for runners of all standards, and walkers, which takes place every Saturday at 9am in Tring Park, off of Hastoe Lane to the south of tring itself. It is not a race against others, but a 5k timed run and it can really be whatever you want it to be, whether that's for fun or as part of a training

plan. It offers an opportunity for all the local community, female or male, young or old, to come together on a regular basis to enjoy our beautiful park and get physically active into the bargain. We want to encourage people to jog or run together irrespective of their ability – this event is truly open to all and best of all it really is FREE! If you’ve never been to a parkrun before, all you have to do is go to https://www.parkrun.org.uk/register/ and sign up. Print off a bar code, bring it along at 9am on a Saturday, and enjoy! Please register before your first visit - http://www.parkrun.org.uk/register/

Gone but not forgotten. Around the UK (and even the world) Tring parkrun is still legendary..and for very good reasons too! In fact we were just sent this brilliant adaptation of a classic song by Shane White (who remains disappointed that he didn't have the opportunity to complete it).

Enjoy

Six years ago!
A brilliant memory from Tring parkrun - when the parkrun conference came to visit. A perfect morning and wonderful company.

A record turnout as we welcomed 150 guests from the annual parkrun conference.

The sun was out, the cows behaved (mostly) and it was a beautiful morning.

Photos taken at Gate 1 - where the parkrun snake went on and on and on and on and on!!

Also (I know - cruel!!) on Heartbreak Hill.

If you like the photos please tell us, comment, like, tag etc.

Thanks

Merry Christmas to all of our old Tring parkrun friends.

We've seen quite a few Strava posts with people saying how much they miss Tring parkrun recently. We also saw the continuation of a "tradition" to run the original route, in the dark, on the Winter Solstice (well done to Harry, Wes, Andy, Dennis and co for that). But an extra special mention has to go to David Saul.

As you can see from his post below he did his 1st, 50th, 100th and expected to do his 250th at Tring. So on Christmas Day he too ran the old course as a special tribute/memory. Brilliant!

We hope your parkrun journey's continue, wherever that might be - and wish you all the very best for 2023.

Given that we have dusted the cobwebs off - we might just have a little moment to reminisce of a very memorable day exactly 5 years ago today!

Those of you have who have seen the recent parkrun magazine will recognise that often used photo on it's back cover as we climbed the hill on our original course. 5 years ago we were visited by the annual parkrun conference that was taking place at the nearby Ashridge College

Here is a video that Bruce Li put together of our parkrun #144

We’ve dusted the cobwebs off our page, to pass our best wishes to one of our RDs, Ken, and his wife Moira, who are relocating to Scotland
Ken was responsible for many of our great photos and put together the Tring parkrun book and our various videos, including the very popular Uncle Rasistas
He volunteered loads at Tring, Wendover and some of the local junior parkruns and will be a big miss for the local parkruns
Why is he heading to Scotland we hear you ask? So far suggestions have included
- To be closer to family
- To open a haggis breeding farm
- To see if he can get more kilts running in one place than were seen at the legendary kilted parkruns of Tring and Wendover
On Saturday he will be running his “goodbye” parkrun at Wendover (and also his 200th parkrun) – so if you haven’t got any plans for Saturday, why don’t you fish out your barcode and come over to Wendover to wish him good luck for his move

Welcome to Tring on Tour #23

Just a quick note to say “Merry Christmas” to you from Tring parkrun. If you fancy a parkrun for tomorrow morning, but you’re not sure what parkruns are on, then remember to check on the https://www.parkrun.org.uk/special-events/ to see what events on are on both tomorrow and also New Years Day too.

Locally, the nearest Christmas parkruns that are happening are Aylesbury and Gadebridge. We’re having a family trip to Gadebridge where Tring regular Claudia Selina will be running her 100th (well done in advance, Claudia!). So it’ll be back out with the Santa hat for tomorrow’s run. Whether you are parkrunning or any other run, or just sat at home unwrapping those new trainers – send in a pic in the comments below

Happy Christmas!

Welcome to Tring on Tour #22.

It’s that time of year when you need to remember your trainers, and your barcode (paper or electronic) and …….. that vital December item…… yes, your Santa hat.

I’m off to Wycombe tomorrow, (a flattish run plus a flight of steps) but our neighbours Wendover Woods are celebrating their parkrun #100 with plenty of Santa hats.

Wherever you are for your parkrunning (or even if you’ve ended up having to go shopping instead!), get in the festive spirit and remember to post your pic below with your Santa hat (other Christmas items are available – tinsel, elf shoes, xmas lights, snowman hat, reindeer antlers etc etc)

See you tomorrow

We held our somewhat reduced, and Omicrom aware, informal Tring parkrun social evening in the Akeman last night. It was really great to see so many familiar faces again and we were also able to present Andy his copy of the Tring parkrun book at long last.

(On the subject of which: those that ordered a copy should have had a message to explain that FedEx have lost the greater part of the shipment and we've also found a minor print ni**le on 5-6 pages of several of the copies we've sampled. Until we hear from FedEx and the Printers we're delaying distribution)

Welcome to Tring on Tour #21.

Sorry, a bit of a late one tonight. I’m writing this as I watch England try to save the first Ashes test which, no doubt by the time you read this tomorrow, will have ended in failure. In between overs, there was a plug for the Boxing Day test in Melbourne which, in the UK, starts late on Christmas evening. And which got me to thinking about my own Christmas Day sporting activity, Christmas Day parkrun, always one of the best parkrun days of the year. parkrun UK are maintaining a list of those parkruns that will take place on Christmas Day, with the full list available here https://www.parkrun.org.uk/special-events/

So time to start thinking about where you will go on Christmas Day? The closest to Tring are Gadebridge and Aylesbury, whereas a little further afield is the two lapper around the lakes at Rickmansworth. Or perhaps you’ll just settle for a quick run around the Tring park, bringing back memories of the good old days. The last five or so years I have always started Christmas Day thinking I’ll be starting the day with a new PB, only to find that half way through it isn’t going to happen. Which brings me back to the England cricket team.....

Anyway...which parkrun are you going to choose tomorrow? As ever remember to post your pics below our Facebook post, and perhaps add a comment on where you are likely to be on Christmas Day. See you tomorrow!

Welcome to Tring on tour 20

After the freezing weather of last Saturday, this week looks to be almost tropical. So we enter the final month of the year and suddenly, in addition to everything else, on your Saturday, you need to be buying a tree, putting up lights and decorations, writing a present list and Christmas cards…. But wait……. You are missing a great opportunity………

…. Ever wished you could get a record low finish token but put off by all that training you might have to do? Well, as ever, we have a solution for you

Yes, did you know, that the next 3 weeks tend to be some of the quietest in parkrunland because everyone else is doing all those Christmassy things above

So turn up at a parkrun near you tomorrow and with a smaller crowd, there is a good chance you could get that low numbered finish token that you have always craved. (But, after the selfie, remember to return the finish token!)

Which parkrun are you going to choose this week? Remember to post your pic below. No need to dress in tartan this week, unless you really took a fancy to your outfit from last week, or your name happens to be Ken!

As well as being excited about your parkrunning tomorrow, do remember to add this date to your calendar, if you haven’t already. Yes, remember the invite for a Tring parkrun social get together at the Akeman on Sunday December 12th, 6pm till late, with a special presentation event at 7:30. We're looking forward to an informal and fun evening and seeing many familiar, friendly faces. Also, those who have ordered books, and not already received them, will be able to collect them here too.

See you tomorrow and hopefully on the 12th too
