Tredegar Arms, Rhymney If you came here looking for a different TA (which is very likely, as we've had a lot of unexpected "likes" lately), you're very welcome!

We've been charting the ups and downs of our renovation project here for the past three years or so. 🫣

Great to see that WalesOnline is continuing to explore the flooding issues in Rhymney, this time affecting a much larger business a bit further down the road. (This article is behind a pay wall, but I think you get one free view.) As we've said before, this is part of a much wider problem of an ageing and poorly-maintained land drainage infrastructure that is affecting individual homes and business (and jobs!) right across the Valleys. As severe weather events become more frequent and water levels rise, we need action on a national level to make our watercourses more future proof.

The failing culvert carries the "entirety" of the River Rhymney 😬

In this article Caerphilly CBC state they've offered us "support". So far they've just come out to take a look and tell us there's nothing they can do (despite knowing that it's their legal responsibility to find the owners and take action against them). We've had to push them to act, but we're not convinced that the people they've now contacted are the legal owners - documents we've seen seem to suggest this land was formerly owned by the local iron and coalworks and may now be in public ownership. Anyone can put a horse in a field and claim the field is theirs. 🧐

'It looks like a water fall, like a curtain of water. It makes its way down the steps that go into my yard and it’s like a torrent. It’s just horrendous'

Any information anyone can share about the flooding situation in the Hill Street area would be gratefully received. We know we're not the only ones affected, but unfortunately we're right under one of the culverts. We're particularly interested in the drainage pipe running across the back of Benjamin Court - when was this installed, who by, and who gave permission for this? Message us in confidence please. 😊

Just to reassure everyone, nobody broke in last night, although the intruder did try all the doors. We've got several CCTV cameras, security lights and an alarm. And a very unforgiving attitude towards anyone setting foot on our property. 😡

🚨 We had an intruder on the premises last night 🚨

Fortunately all our cameras do work, so we've got some great images of him. We have also heard that he was trying car doors in the Tan Y Bryn and Moriah Street area between 1.30am-2.30am and other people have footage too, so check your cars and your cameras! We will be handing our footage over to the police.
