Tonight, the sky puts on a proper spectacle. From around 6pm, up to 95% of the sun disappears, the deepest partial eclipse Britain’s seen since 2015, and as close to total as we’ll get until 2081! It peaks a little after 7pm, low and golden in the western sky, so if you’ve got a sea view or an open horizon, that’s your spot.
Those of us not working tonight, will be up on Dartmoor. Check out Dartmoor Partner tips for where is best to view, and to check out their top tier walking routes for hidden gems on the moor.

Remember folks...you will need proper eye protection, this isn’t a “have a quick peek” situation, but it doesn’t need to come from a packet. We made ours from what was already lying around the pub: pinhole viewers from cardboard boxes and a colander.
Same science, zero landfill, and mildly more fun to explain to a confused passer-by than a pair of cardboard glasses.

🌒 Bonus for your diary: if tonight whets your appetite, the moon returns the favour on 28 August with a partial lunar eclipse. Earth’s shadow creeping across it in the small hours. Different show, same sky, no glasses required for that one.

Tomatoes

We’re fully into tomato season now, and honestly, we’re spoiled for choice. The heritage varieties coming out of the poly tunnels at right now are something else, walking through them feels like wandering into a forest of tomatoes, the air warm and fragrant.

The Albatross apartment

We say this every year… but the Albatross apartment is definitely getting more and more popular.. and it’s easy to see why!
Just opposite the pub, is a gorgeous four bedroom bolthole for you and the whole gang. Our self-catering apartment has two bathrooms, and loads of living space for everyone to be together, whether you’re hanging out in the lounge or spilling out on to terrace from the kitchen.
The apartment has all the rustic, reclaimed charm of the Bull, the same sumptuously comfy mattresses from Naturalmat , same organic linen from Greenfibres , same vintage vibe and antique furniture.

For all of you super organised peeps out there, our calendar for summer 2027 is now open! If this year is anything to go by, you’ll want to get booking before the weekends and summer hols get snaffled up again.

For those of you yearning for cooler temperatures that come with the change of the seasons, autumn is the perfect time to visit Totnes.
South Devon has so much to offer, from the great outdoors, to gorgeous market towns, like Totnes. The Albatross is the perfect place to cosy up after a coastal work or adventure on the moor, and the ideal base for meandering round the market in Totnes and exploring all of the wonderful independent shops our town has to offer.

C’mon England!!!! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 ⚽️

We’re backing our boys tonight, supporting the nation’s team and celebrating the incredible diversity of our country at the same time, something to be properly proud of tonight!

20 out of the 26 lads in our squad have foreign heritage, as well as English. How bloody marvellous is that!
Roots in Nigeria, Jamaica, Ireland, St Kitts, Ghana, Portugal, you name it.
This isn’t a distraction from the shirt, it IS the shirt. Different backgrounds, with the same badge on the chest. And honestly, it’s what makes cheering this lot on feel like cheering on the whole country 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Beetroot, crème fraiche, radish, herbs

This one’s a little special.
Not only is it deliciously fresh and cooling (perfect for the super hot days we’ve been having), it’s a dish put together using incredible ingredients that are grown and produced hyper locally, just a stones throw from the pub.

Beetroot & herbs from and crème fraiche from the cows Riverford Organic Dairy both literally just 7 miles from the pub.

DEVON COHORT No.3 // Starts 10th September 2026.

We are super grateful to Skills Boot Camp, Train4Tomorrow & Devon County Council for enabling us to offer full bursaries for cohort 3 of our 💚 Level 3 Course in Regenerative & Sustainable Hospitality, created in partnership with The Apricot Centre

Every Thursday from 10th September to 26th November 2026, we’ll be diving into all things hospitality, food and farming.
Location // Baddaford. Geetie and Guy Singh-Watson’s farm here in little ole Devon. The farm is such an incredible place to base one’s learning, and September is bloody GLORIOUS up there.
Devon-based folk are eligible for fully funded bursaries, covering the full course fee of £2,500. For those living further afield, we have a small number of self-funded places.

Because here’s the thing: every menu is a choice, and where our food and drink come from, who produces it and how, really bloody matters. This course teaches you how to make the better choice, and how to actually make it work: on your books, in your kitchen, on your bar, and with your suppliers.

Massive thanks to everyone who’s come through this course so far, we’re properly proud of the community it’s building!

Raspberry Margarita //

Berry season is popping off at and the team of pickers at the farm are like a well-oiled machine picking them, storing them somewhere cool before they are delivered to the pub.
They arrive to us fresh from the field, ready to use on our breakfast, dessert, and bar menu.

Our bar team are up to their usual behind the scenes wizardry, turning the seasons’s bounty of raspberries into a delicious syrup that features in this incredible raspberry margarita. (Swipe to see the different stages of the syrup process.) Raspberry syrup is also featuring in our seasonal cordial selection, if you want all that raspberry flavour, alcohol free. Mix with your choice of still or sparkling water. 

We think this raspberry marg is the perfect summer cocktail. If you’d like to make it at home, here’s the recipe. Right in time for the weekend.

50ml organic tequila
40ml raspberry syrup
30ml lime super-juice.

Pour all the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice and shake.
Double strain into a glass with a salt rim, marvel at it for a moment before enjoying it somewhere sunny. 



Raspberry syrup.

There’s no waste from this process.
Once the stewed fruit is strained and bottled. The cooked pulp is still full of deliciousness so it’s put to good use in our kitchen.
The fruit is used as compote, or dehydrated into sweets or sherbet for puds and cocktail garnish.
