PROBUS is a club for fully retired men from all walks of life.
Fellowship. Friendship and fun, understanding plus a hugely important helping of probity.
We meet every week on Thursday mornings and before the start of the meeting there is always
ample time for a friendly chat over a cup of tea or coffee in the club bar and an opportunity to
continue after the meeting.
Most weeks we welcome a speaker many of whom will inform, educate and also entertain.
These presentations are often voyages of discovery and are fashioned to be enjoyed by all. If you
think you have heard everything then you might be in for a pleasant surprise
To mark the anniversary of her death on August 4 th , Neil Hendrie and friends presented the story of
Marilyn Munroe’s life and mysterious death. They gave us a well researched insight into the star’s
childhood and how it contributed to her crippling feeling of insecurity as an adult which induced
behaviours that antagonised everyone she worked with. They also laid out the circumstances of her
death from a drug overdose so that club members could to decide whether it was an accident ,
su***de or if she was murdered because of her relationships with the Kennedy brothers (Bobby and
President JFK)
On a lighter note we also held our regular quiz and here are three questions for you to have a go:
1 How many black keys are there on a piano?... no sneaking into your music room to count them.
2Who succeeded Henry 8 th ?
3 What familiar British musical instrument is known as a Dudelsack in Germany? Answers below.
