Good afternoon all,

This Tuesday Stafford BC have a council meeting and our local Ward Councillor Mark Winnington would like to bring up the state of the Red Lion pub and petition on our behalf to get the owner to make it safe and secure.

In order to do this we need 10 signatories, you just need to enter your name and address.
Every vote-age adult in your household is allowed to sign and all signatures count (so if there are 3 of you sign from the same house that's 3 signatures)

We only need 10 signatures but the more we have the greater the impact.

Please take 5 minutes of your time to read this
petition and sign:

Hi Everyone,

Some fantastic news! The recent Tribunal to decide once and for all if The Red Lion should retain it's ACV (Asset of Community Value) status has decided in our favour!

The Red Lion now has an ACV that is set in stone that can no longer be appealed.

This result now seriously calls into question any ability for the developer to obtain planning approval for housing of any kind and is a major step forwards to getting our pub back!!

Hello Everyone, we have gathered a short survey to gather the thoughts of everyone who used The Red Lion to gauge the impact of the pub closing on the local community. It shouldn't take more than 5 minutes to complete (and mobile phone friendly!). If you visited The Red Lion, we would love to hear your thoughts and please share the link with any others who you know used to visit. We would really appreciate your support and help in completing this to provide further evidence as to why we need our community pub. Thank you!

Good Morning Everyone!

If you could find some time in between dodging the showers and defrosting the car over the next few days, please could you spend 5 minutes filling out our online "Save the Red Lion" membership form?

It's free to join and there are no obligations but it will help prove to Stafford Borough Council just how much support the Red Lion has.

All members of your household who are interested can apply, so please make sure they all apply to show the true number of supporters!

Please feel free to share the link with other like minded souls, it's better to receive the link several times than not at all!

We should point out that this is a new and different questionnaire to the one that we originally asked supporters to complete.

As always, we hugely appreciate your support, the sole aim of this request is to provide further evidence to save the Red Lion. It is one of the many local pubs that will disappear from our area forever if we do not keep fighting.

The Red Lion in Sutton on the A519 has been purchased by Vanbrugh Construction Ltd who have told residents that they plan to convert the pub to a house and build housing on the remaining land. This is despite the fact that the previous owner, Admiral Taverns, sold the Red Lion as a commercial pub with no planning rights and prior to the Red Lion’s unexpected closure by Admiral Taverns it was a thriving well used pub.
The pub is listed as an Asset of Community Value (ACV) which means that its use has recently been or is presently used to further the social well-being & interests of the local community and could do so in the future. It is thereby subject to additional protection from development[1] under the Localism Act 2011.
For most small villages, like ours, a pub is a vital service; it is a meeting place, communication centre and an important lynchpin of village life. Much of the appeal of our village rests on its sense of community and the amenities within it. It is the reason many people have moved here and remain here.
Another important consideration is the impact on local house prices. There is significant evidence to suggest that property values can decrease quite significantly in the absence of a good local pub, especially in rural areas.
There is currently no plan in place to run the pub as community so we are not asking for any money or volunteering help we are trying as a community to gather support and evidence to keep our pub.
This does not mean, however, that the new owners won’t be able to overturn the ACV and carry through their plans. If we wish to see our beautiful pub re-open and remain as an asset to the local and surrounding community we will need evidence proving the Red Lion was not only loved but well used so please, please respond:
1) Fill in the questionnaire to be shortly posted (if you can cut and paste it into another document and email the response please)
2) If you have photos showing you using the Red Lion please post or email them to us at [email protected] or share on the Red Lion FaceBook Page.
3) Please write a quick letter telling us how you used the pub, if you were part of a club or social group please tell us how many of you were in that group, why you chose the pub and how often you used it.

Hi Everyone,
As some of you may already be aware and for those that are not, The Red Lion and its site has been sold to a developer. We have taken on this webpage with Mary's blessing to gather support and SAVE THE PUB! Below you will find a summary of some details of the current position and a request for your support. Please complete the brief questionnaire if you have not received it directly and return it to the email address provided together with any testimonials as detailed in the statement below. Your support is hugely appreciated and we will continue to use this page to update on progress and continue the fight to save the pub.

Food Glorious Food!

Having worked in hospitality for some time, I understand that everyone is different. We all love food in different ways...rare steak to well done, want gravy on your dinner to NO GRAVY! Mushy peas to garden peas...because of that, you will find that here at the Red Lion Sutton we are very flexible and will try to deliver your dish as you like it.

A warm welcome awaits anytime you pop in, from just a quick drink to an evening with friends. We have an ever changing menu to a range of cask ales and wines to suit whatever occasion you decide to join us.

Open fire in the cooler nights of Summer and from lunchtime in the Autumn and Winter.

We are developing our beer garden, so if you like Alfresco Dining it will be up and running soon. Tipi arriving for your next celebration...heating and lighting all year round. Wedding packages available. Kids parties - fairy party and cowboy party available...please enquire. Themed parties to suit, rodeo available etc.
