The new v**e duty starts this October. Here is what it actually means, minus the jargon.

WHAT IT IS. From 1 October 2026, the government's new Va**ng Products Duty applies to va**ng liquid at a flat rate of £2.20 per 10ml, whatever the ni****ne strength.

WHAT IT COVERS. Every e-liquid, including ni****ne-free, with VAT on top. Devices, coils and empty pods are not taxed.

WHAT YOU WILL SEE. New stock will carry a government duty stamp on the packaging, similar to the stamps on to***co and spirits.

This is a government excise tax, not a Celtic Vapours charge, and it applies to every v**e retailer in the UK. It is a big change for everyone, so if you have questions about what it means for you, pop into Llansamlet, Cwmdu or Bridgend and the team will gladly talk it through.

A well looked-after device just works better. Here are four habits worth having, for adult v**ers.

1. Prime new coils. Let a fresh coil sit with liquid for ten minutes or so before first use. It saves the coil and the flavour.

2. Keep it topped up. Running a tank nearly dry wears coils out much faster. Little and often is the habit.

3. Store it well. Upright, out of direct sunlight and away from heat. A quick wipe-down goes a long way too.

4. Respect the battery. Use the correct charger, avoid leaving it charging unattended, and keep spare batteries in a proper case rather than loose in a pocket or bag.

Ever stared at a label and wondered what the numbers actually mean? Here is the plain-English version, for v**ers.

MG/ML. Ni****ne strength is measured in milligrams per millilitre. A 10mg/ml label means there is 10mg of ni****ne in every millilitre of liquid.

PERCENTAGES. Some labels use a percentage instead. It is the same thing written differently: 1.0% is simply another way of saying 10mg/ml.

UK LIMITS. In the UK, ni****ne e-liquid is capped at 20mg/ml, which is 2%, under TRPR regulations.
