Celebrating India’s 80th Independence Day with NamasteNima 🇮🇳

Yesterday 15.8.2026 felt quite surreal.

Indian Independence Day has always meant celebrating at home with family and friends, surrounded by food, laughter and the familiar aromas of an Indian kitchen.

This year was very different — We were partying at Ashbrooke Sports Club with everyone enjoying good music and good food!

From shopping for fresh ingredients, marinating the chicken and preparing everything from scratch — it was a huge undertaking, but seeing people enjoying the food made every hour of preparation worthwhile.
We served bowl after bowl of freshly prepared curry, rice, crisp onion bhajis and poppadoms to a fantastic crowd celebrating at Ashbrooke Sports Club.

And then… we SOLD OUT! 🙌🏽
There was something incredibly special about sharing the flavours I grew up with while celebrating India and its culture here in Sunderland.

A very memorable Independence Day. 🇮🇳❤️

Thank you to everyone who came over, tried the food, returned for more, chatted with us and supported NamasteNima. It genuinely meant a lot.

I’ve never wanted NamasteNima to be just about making Indian food. For me, food is about warmth, connection and bringing people together.

This bowl is exactly that — a comforting homemade curry with fragrant rice, crispy onion bhajis and poppadoms made with fresh ingredients, spices and a lot of care.

I love taking the food I grew up around and sharing it with people here — whether that’s at an event, a workshop, or community gathering

Seeing something I’ve cooked photographed so beautifully also makes me realise how far NamasteNima has come. What started with my love of cooking and sharing food is slowly becoming something much bigger — food, culture, wellbeing and connection.

And I’m excited to see where it goes next. ❤️

Healthy, wholesome and packed with flavours 🌿🥕🧅

This morning’s breakfast was a delicious plate of Semolina (Rava) Vegetable Pancakes, made with very little to no oil (you can sprinkle water onto the hot pan instead of oil before pouring the batter) and loaded with fresh ingredients:

🧅 Red onions
🥕 Grated carrots
🌿 Fresh coriander
🌶️ Green chillies

Served alongside a comforting bowl of freshly made potato curry, it’s a breakfast that’s light on oil but full of goodness, keeping you satisfied for longer without compromising on taste.

✨ An inspiring evening at The Ladies Collective x TUTTI. ✨


Last night I had the pleasure of speaking to an incredible group of women about one of my favourite subjects – the health and wellbeing benefits of the herbs and spices used in authentic Indian masala chai.

At NamasteNima, I believe food is so much more than something we eat. It tells stories, brings people together, and can support our health and wellbeing through simple, natural ingredients.

We explored how everyday spices can offer amazing benefits:

✨Cloves
✨Black pepper

It was wonderful to share how a simple cup of freshly brewed chai can become a mindful daily ritual that nourishes both body and soul.

A huge thank you to and House of Hype & Co. for creating such a welcoming space for women to connect, learn and inspire one another. I loved meeting so many amazing ladies.

I hope the talk yesterday enabled you all to view the spices in a different light. Spices that nourishes and heals the body.

Our first weekend off after what feels like forever, and what a fantastic way to spend it! ☀️🎶

A huge thank you to Summer Streets Festival for an incredible day. From the atmosphere to the music, everything was absolutely on point.

It was my first time watching SWINDLED perform, and you were brilliant! Ruth Lyon, your performance was beautiful—I absolutely loved your music. The brass band was perfect. And thank you to for continuing to champion such outstanding talent. Every act we watched was exceptional.

Despite the windy conditions, the main stage kept the crowds entertained all day, creating an atmosphere full of energy, laughter and great music.

Thank you to everyone who made today so memorable. If you haven’t been yet, tomorrow is the final day, so don’t miss the chance to experience it for yourself. Go along and enjoy every moment! ✨🎉🎶☀️🎺

It’s already a week since our first Summer Solstice event ✨

☀️ Celebrating the Summer Solstice with NamasteNima ☀️

The longest day of the year called for something special, and what better way to welcome the sunrise than with a freshly prepared Indian breakfast by the sea!

Our Summer Solstice breakfast menu featured:

As the sun rose over the coastline, we shared warm food, good conversation, and a taste of India with our local community. There is something magical about starting the day with wholesome, freshly cooked food and a beautiful sunrise.
