This is a message for anyone with a 2027 event, such as wedding, special birthday or anniversary, as well as those planning to join Open Gardens:

Get some perennials in now, while the soil is warm, the pests are fewer, and the rain is hopefully more regular (?!). You will really thank yourself next spring!

We get so many customers visiting in March and April wanting a great floral display in June. That's hard to achieve with young perennials. You'll either have to pay a lot of money for forced plants at a garden centre, or hope for the right weather to get young plants growing quickly. If you put them in now, they'll make their home in your garden and be ready to go earlier in the spring.

We have loads of lovely hardy perennials waiting to show off to your guests in 2027! All are priced between £1.50 and £5.

This is the start of our gardening year, and today I'm putting my favourite plants into pots. I adore violas. Tiny shining jewels of the richest velvet.

I was married in the spring in a beautiful village church. My Uncle John suggested using some of my Grandad's very old plain terracotta pots, filled with violas. I made up the pots in Autumn. By May, they looked absolutely gorgeous lining the path through the churchyard.

My Dad and I walked to the service, past all their cheerful faces, smiling like the first guests at the wedding. They will always make me happy. 😊

We have plenty of perennials, and winter bedding coming along nicely.

The Costoluto tomatoes we've grown for ourselves are producing some wonderful shapes!

What have been your gardening successes this summer? It's been a challenging one!

I took these photo last night in Borley. A field of phacelia, glowing in the sunset.
A kind lady stopped to ask me if I was ok. I think she thought my car had broken down. When I explained I had just spotted this glorious view and wanted to take a photo, she told me of a beautiful field of phacelia and sunflowers in Fenstead End. I'm not sure where that is, but who knows what other discoveries I might make while looking!

A quick tour around the garden, at this quiet time in the gardening year.

A short tour to show you what we've (royal 'we' there, really just Rob at this time of year!) been up to in the last few weeks.

Our hours will be back to normal from the 20th August (with a later start on the 22nd). The perennials are looking good, and we have tonnes of plants growing, ready for the autumn. 😁

Now, let's all do a rain dance please...🌧💃🕺
