One of the hardest things about losing a pet is that the world doesn’t always recognise the depth of the grief.

They aren’t “just a dog” or “just a cat.”

They’re part of our daily lives. They greet us at the door, sit beside us through difficult days, and become part of our family story.

I’m incredibly proud to support Baby Loss Retreat and the beautiful work they do for bereaved families.

Their team kindly showcase Memory Within jewellery as part of the support and remembrance they offer to parents, and I’ve seen first-hand how much compassion, care and understanding sits at the heart of everything they do.

They are now trying to secure land for Erin’s Retreat, a peaceful sanctuary where families affected by baby loss can come to reflect, remember and simply breathe in a space created with genuine love and understanding.

They’ve already raised an amazing £60,000 and now have just six weeks to raise the remaining £40,000 to secure this special plot in Dalry.

I was fully intending to work in the studio today… but apparently the UK has entered its “Mount Doom” era.

The solder is practically flowing without the torch, the resin has refused to cure on the grounds of workplace stress, and I’m one heatwave away from personally throwing rings into volcanoes.

As always though, I’d rather delay things slightly than send out anything that isn’t absolutely perfect. Every piece I make carries somebody’s memories, and quality will always come first - even if I have melted into the bench by the end of the day.

Until temperatures return to something less “middle earth apocalypse”, I’ll be hydrating, hiding from the heat, and trying not to fuse myself permanently to a polishing mop.

Meet Daisy Dog!

Poppy Dog’s full sister, professional cuddle thief, and the newest apprentice at the jewellery bench. 13 weeks old.

Current skills include supervising polishing, demanding snacks, and making it impossible to get any work done without stopping for cuddles first.

Safe to say - she’s already part of the team.

They become comfort on the hardest days.

Reading messages like this never gets easier.

To be trusted with something so personal, especially after the loss of both parents - is something I never take lightly. Knowing this ring brings even a small amount of comfort during such overwhelming grief means everything.

People often ask me how much ashes are needed to make a piece of jewellery.

The honest answer is - very little.

For most pieces, it’s just a small pinch. Far less than people expect. I request a teaspoon of ashes, although the majority is returned to you with your finished jewellery.

You don’t need to part with a large amount, and everything that comes into the studio is handled carefully, individually, with full respect and robust ashes handling policies in place

I think a lot of people worry about “getting it wrong” or sending too much. You won’t. I guide you through all of that as part of the process.
