Yesterday we asked you who the first pint was pulled for when The Bull opened in 1978... and the answer is...
A dog called Bruce!
The first owners of The Bull, Graham and Noreen Battam, contacted local dog breeders Morris and Shirley Simpson from Queensville and asked for Bruce, a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, to be guest of honour as a champion of the breed the pub was named after.
Bruce (registered name Brintiga of Shermor) took pride of place on the opening day, and the brewery's (Greenall's) sales director, Derek Bell, handed his owners a commemorative model of the breed to mark the occasion (if this still exists anywhere, we'd love to see it!), and Bruce got a pint.
Bruce was a big-wig in the terrier world, with his owners turning down substantial offers from as far as America so they could keep him.
We've done a full write-up of this chapter of The Bull's history on our website, link in the comments, along with an image of the full-page newspaper clipping from the day.
