This Tuesday (24th February) the Focsle meets at The Wellington Arms (note it's not the Guide Dog this time) for a singaround - come along and sing, play, recite or just listen. A voluntary donation of £2 is suggested, and there'll be a raffle. Facilities for online payment will be available.

The Focsle's first meet-up in 2026 is a singaround at The Guide Dog this Tuesday (13th February) evening from 8:00 until 11:00. Come along to sing, play, recite, tell a story, or simply listen. Voluntary contribution of £2 in the tin is welcome, and there'll be a raffle.

Looking farther ahead, we have several guest musicians planned, including:

Paul Johnson (27th January) – we are destination 181 on his five-year mission to visit every folk club, open mic and music venue within 50 miles of his home.

Pete Harris (10th February) – a mix of blues, Americana and ragtime from a well-known and popular performer, not just locally, but across the UK and further afield.

Horses of Disaster (24th March) – two of our own, Ben Walker and David Brian, great voices with an eclectic mix of material, from rock to folk to early Scandinavian culture, variety guaranteed.

This year's Focsle Christmas(ish) meeting is tomorrow (9th December) evening at The Wellington Arms from 8:00 until 11:00. (We can’t use our usual venue because there is a Saints home match tomorrow evening.) There'll be a singaround as usual and everyone is welcome to take part, singing, playing, reading or just listening. You can choose to do something seasonal, but there’s no obligation to be Christmassy. There will be a raffle in the break, but we'll actually be giving everyone a free ticket, and not asking you to buy any. We won't be asking for donations to the club either, and we won’t be doing food, so please don’t bring anything. The King John’s Mummers will arrive at about 9:00 to perform their traditional play, and they will be collecting for their nominated charity, so please have some cash ready (or you can make an online payment to the club account and it will be passed on to the Mummers.) They‘ll stay on for some carol singing, for everyone to join in. It should be a fun evening!

Tomorrow (Tuesday 11th November) at The Guide Dog from 8:00 until 11:00 it's a singaround night - all welcome to sing, play, read - or just come and listen!

For operational reasons, there'll be no Focsle meeting on 14th October. Our next meeting will be on Tuesday 28th October at The Guide Dog, when our guest will be Ian W. Brown (https://www.ianwbrown.com/). His songs have been performed by many artists, including Fisherman’s Friends (whom he managed), Show Of Hands, Jason Donovan, D Side, Pixie Lott, Graham Gouldman, Henry Priestman and even Meryl Streep. Not to be confused with the lead singer of the Stone Roses, he is probably the only pig farmer to have been nominated for an Ivor Novello Award.

Tomorrow (9th September) from 8:00: Focsle singaround at The Guide Dog - come and sing, play, recite or just listen and enjoy. And don't forget that in a couple of weeks, on Tuesday September 23rd, all the way from North Carolina, our guests are Friction Farm (https://frictionfarm.com), making a very welcome return.

This Tuesday (12th August) at The Guide Dog we'll be having a Birthday Singsong for Bill Thompson’s big birthday, from 8:00 pm. It won’t be a standard singaround. Bill has a programme of great songs planned for the evening. Everyone will be encouraged to join in with the songs they know and to add harmonies, and, of course, sing along with the choruses and generally enjoy themselves.
