Centres for Seafarers was formed as a not for profit charity company in 2004 and is an ecumenical partnership of the three international Christian Mission Societies, The Apostleship of the Sea, The Sailors Society and The Mission to Seafarers, working together to provide welfare, comfort and shelter for seafarers visiting UK ports. Six trustees, two from each member Society, run the charity. The T

rustees of Centres for Seafarers will make the best economic judgements at each of the ports where all three Societies currently have a presence, as to the most appropriate means of serving visiting and local seafarers in terms of welfare and other necessary services. The first three Centres have been established in Southampton (opened April 2005), Tilbury (opened December 2006) and Fawley (opened October 2009). All centres follow the same model which is proving sucessful and which will form the blue print for other ecumenical centres around the UK.
