SADPL Pool Knock Out Tournament 2026/27
Baildon Hall bow out after battling performance against higher-division Shipley Bowling Club
Baildon Hall’s journey in the 2026/27 SADPL Knock Out Tournament came to an end in the first round as they were beaten 7–3 by higher-division opposition, Shipley Bowling Club.
Despite the final scoreline, Baildon Hall were always in the contest and showed plenty of fight against a team playing a division above them. The match was much closer than the result might suggest, with a few unfortunate balls and fine margins ultimately proving costly for the Baildon side.
Shipley made a strong start, taking the opening four frames through Ste Lightbody, Jay Halliday and Kirwin Daniel, who claimed two wins, putting Baildon on the back foot early on.
Jimmy Robertson then got Shipley another point, but Baildon finally got themselves on the scoreboard through a determined performance from Dan Preston, who secured a valuable frame against Robertson.
Halliday restored Shipley’s advantage by defeating Jolly Dobbs, before the home side extended their lead further by taking the doubles encounter, with Robertson and Daniel combining to overcome Dan Evans and Tayque Holmes.
However, Baildon refused to give up. Tayque Holmes produced a welcome response with a win over Robertson, before Dan Evans added another point by defeating Lightbody, showing that Baildon had the quality to trouble their higher-ranked opponents.
Unfortunately, Shipley had the final say, with Halliday beating Rob Wheelhouse to complete the 7–3 victory.
Although Baildon Hall must now turn their attention back to league action, there were plenty of positives to take from the evening. They competed well against stronger opposition and, with a little more luck on their side, could perhaps have made the scoreline much tighter.
Final score: Shipley Bowling Club 7–3 Baildon Hall
A disappointing cup exit, but a performance that showed Baildon Hall can compete with teams from the division above. The focus now returns to the league, where they will look to build on the positives and get back to winning ways.
