Stancill Brewery

Stancill Brewery Independent micro-brewery based in Sheffield, UK. Home of the legendary Barnsley Bitter and other fine cask ales. Stancill Brewery was ready to brew.

In 2013, Oakwell Brewery of Barnsley, announced their closure. Oakwell’s legendary Barnsley Bitter faced extinction, along with 120 years of brewing heritage. Motivated by a desire to ensure that the production of Oakwell’s famous Barnsley Bitter could continue, Barnsley boys Tom & Adam rescued the brewing equipment from Oakwell and set about recreating the much loved beer. A site in Sheffield was selected as the home of the new brewery. Known as the ‘Brewing Capital of England’, the city’s proximity to the Peak District gives access to the purest water - perfect for brewing. The 22.5 barrel kit was carefully transported to the new location and painstakingly reassembled. Production commenced in January 2014 with a revival of the historic Barnsley Bitter, true to the original recipe. The legacy continues to this day, with Barnsley Bitter taking pride of place in our core range of award-winning real ales. Armed with our brewing knowledge and state of the art filtration equipment we created our premium quad-filtered Sheffield Pilsner, using expertly selected ingredients and traditional Bavarian techniques. In 2016, we developed a brand new recipe to satisfy the thirst for a quality, independently produced 4% lager. Stancill Lager made history as the first lager to be wholly developed and brewed within Sheffield. We proudly serve our publican customers and Stancill beers can be found on the bars of pubs across Yorkshire and Midlands. We also have two pubs in Sheffield - The Albion and The Closed Shop, each showcasing the Stancill range of real ales and craft beers, as well as our Lager and Pilsner.

We're delighted to share that we won both Gold AND Silver in category for our No7 and Barnsley Bitter at this year's Barrow Hill Rail Ale B**r Festival! There's no shortage of great b**rs at this festival and it's marvellous to see two of our classic core ales winning awards among some very tough competition 🥇🥈

Apparently, 2016 has been trending! Here's what we were up to 10 years ago...

🥉🥉We won double Bronze at the Rail Ale Festival for Barnsley Bitter and No7.

🍻 In July we opened our first brewery tap, The Horse & Jockey at Wadsley, followed by The Norfolk Arms at Grenoside in November.

🌟 Special brews included Zeppelin, Zidane Zidane (it was a "Euros Summer") and American Beauty - you may see her again soon!

Apart from a few more casks, tanks and grey hairs, we look pretty much the same...
