Roll up, roll up! First stop on the Toer De Geuze!
Introducing . An historic lambic brewery founded in 1882 by Henri Vandervelden in the picturesque town of Beersel, above the Senne Valley.
After closing in 2002 it has been lovingly restored since 2005 by new owner Gert Christiaens. They currently buy wort from Boon for fermentation and blending, but hope one day to resume brewing on site. They produce a range of Geuze and fruit lambic. Our Chris took a tour around their cellar, where the spontaneous fermentation happens and the lambic sits aging in multiple ancient barrels. Photos, including the informative and eccentric guide and their atmospheric aging rooms, included.
For our own 'Toer', we've sourced boxes of their lambic, pouring straight from our own cellar.
Citra Dry Hopped, Rose and Rhubarb flavoured variants of their super sour and funky lambic available from your delectation.
If that's not enough, have their experimental Birch Bark lambic pouring on draught too.
Oud Beersel are a member of HORAL (The High Council for Artisanal Lambic Beers) and contribute to the HORAL Megablend Oude Geuze, released annually with lambic from all its members.
