Square Hole Comedy

Square Hole Comedy Evenings of lovingly curated live comedy at Shakespeares in Sheffield In the before-times, Square Hole Comedy lived in the function room above the Red Deer.

With a global pandemic comes some readjustment and we have a new home not too far away at Shakespeares on Gibraltar Street. We’re set to run on each first Sunday of the month (excluding August and January) so if you’re not already signed up, join our mailing list to be among the first to hear the details and gain access to tickets. We also host additional tour shows and previews from time to time,

so there may be extra dates besides our regular mixed-bill shows. For over a decade some of the most brilliant performers on the national and international comedy circuit graced our little stage, from award winning and critically acclaimed festival favourites to those you might have seen on the telly or hear hosting hugely popular podcasts. We also strive to provide emerging talent with a lovely setting in which to hone their craft, and a friendly and fun atmosphere for flipping marvellous audiences to enjoy them in.

As seen on The Russell Howard Show, The Mash Report, Avoidance and Alice and Steve.

Big No No Sunday 22nd March at The Harlequin

I don't think anyone expected this night to come back!

Welcome to Big No No, a q***r focused, loose format, new material night from the wacky funsters behind Square Hole Comedy

We're very much finding our feet with this first one but we've already got a smorgasbord of fascinating, bizarre and frankly terrifying acts for you spanning visual artists, alt drag, standup comedians (good ones we swear) and some so mysterious they've not even been booked yet

Is this night totally based on spite for the TERFs that used to own The Harlequin? Haha, you must attend to find out

Stay tuned to Square Hole's social media and mailing list for act announcements, this is gonna be great!

Tickets are a fiver I guess just because that's kind of the sweet spot, if it's 3 quid you might buy the ticket and not come, £7 you might not buy the ticket. All the ticket money goes to the acts, maybe to charity! Tune in to find out!

Come drink the kool aid.

Her debut Fringe show was nominated for 4 awards including NextUp’s Biggest Award in Comedy, and earned her 5 and 4 star reviews from the likes of The Scotsman, DIVA magazine and Chortle.
She has appeared on Comedy Central Live, BBC Three and Radio 4, and supported Fern Brady, Harriet Kemsley and Fin Taylor amongst others on their UK tours.

Paul Campbell: The Lost Tapes of Somerfield

Following a successful Edinburgh Fringe run where the show sold out for final dates Paul brings the first known show of the comedy retail bereavement genre to Squarehole.

As a socially isolated teenager, Paul found solace in the glorious aisles of his favourite branch of the 90s and 00s chain Somerfield. He looks at his obsession with the stores' mood lighting, staff call-out codes and refund policy and shares the heartache of the store closing, outlining the five stages of supermarket grief.
