Looking back on what has been a really nice weekend... it started off on the right foot with this great meal at Emmas Bistro at The Nether Edge and went from there.
I met a friend at Emma's, which is inside The Nether Edge bar on Wolstenholm Road, for an early dinner on Friday and that might be my new favourite thing: I wasn't yet too tired to hold a conversation, had the capacity for three courses (both physically and mentally!) and was home in time to put the baby to bed. Perfect.
It helped that the food was SO damn good, too. The menu at Emma's is small but perfectly formed. I wanted everything!
We went for the garlic, chilli & lime prawns and the harissa hot wings to start; the grand burger and the grilled halloumi burger for our mains; and then wedged in a brownie & ice cream and an Eton mess for dessert.
I have no regrets. It was all so fresh and delicious! The portion sizes were really generous, flavours popped off the plate and it was just good unpretentious food which was delivered with love. The smashed patty on my bacon cheeseburger was glorious and this was perfect Friday night food ๐๐ป.
We had a chat with the lovely chef Emma after the meal and I really liked her no-bullsh*t approach to running a kitchen. I think that really shone through in the food: this isn't a team hamstrung by an overly-long menu they don't care about. They have a select range of dishes, they do them well, when they want to try something new or have some great special produce available, it can be added onto the chalkboard menu and anything can be removed from the menu if they're not feeling it. Perfect.
If you're wondering, The Nether Edge is dog- and family-friendly. Though it was pretty marvellous to just go out with my friend and have a catch up without keeping an eye on our babies.
