Seascale Golf Club Report 8th June 2026
On Tuesday, sixty six teams from the North of England competed in our Seniors Open 4BBB. A short time after a fine start, the weather deteriorated and heavy rain began. Fortunately it was followed by a beautiful sunny afternoon. The winning pair from Ulverston comprised Kevin O'Neill and David Cowperthwaite who returned 44pts. A card playoff was required to separate the next three prize winners who all returned 43nett. Chris Rouse/P Wilson (Ulverston) with a Back9/21 came second. Ian Blamire/Chris Sherwen (St Bees) took third place, beating William Davidson/Richard Armstrong (St. Bees) into fourth place by virtue of a better Back6. Back in the club house, the players were very complimentary about the condition of the course and several first timers said they'd be back.
Only eleven members braved the atrocious conditions for Wednesday's Stableford allowing only one Division with two prizes. The winner, with a very respectable score of 35pts in the prevailing conditions, was Simon Witham. Paul Maher claimed second place with 34pts beating Wayne Howland, also on 34pts with the better Back3. There were no valid Twos so a draw was made and John Owens, Tony Boxall and Watto Watson were the lucky winners.
The weather improved for the forty eight men playing for the Gents Seniors Championship Medal (Age 55+). In a very tight finish, with the first four players all returning 69nett, the 2026 Champion emerged as Bill Jenkinson with his Back9/33. The Runner-Up was Mitchell Steele with a B9 of 35. Michael Williams slotted into third place with B9/36, and in fourth place with the last of the 69s came Tim Parker B9/37. The fifth and final place went to John Martindale with the better of two 70s.
Strong winds prevailed throughout the day for Sunday's House Trophy, an Aggregate Medal competition with both scores to count. The pairing of Mathew Garratt and Chris Merner lifted the Trophy with a score of 144. Four behind, William Douglas with Louie Henderson were Runners-Up on 148. Phil Knott/Colin Price's, round of 149 earned them third place, followed by Alex Johnstone/Stephen Sharpe on 154, then Shaun Bostock/Antony Leak with the better of two 158s took the fifth and final place. There were five Twos with Jamie Wilson getting his at the par4, 11th.
