** Important notice, please read **
As you may have noticed, there hasn’t been a Diffraction or Carbon event for over a year now. We are aware of another brand attempting to start up in Scunthorpe and wish the promoters the best of luck in there attempt at revitalising Scunthorpe’s nightlife.
We regularly receive messages asking about Void, the future of our brands and Scunthorpe nightlife in general. To put it into perspective, hosting an event cost us thousands of pounds. Attempting to compete with nearby cities such as Hull, Leeds, Lincoln and Sheffield by bringing in the best DJs was unfeasible. The event companies that put on all of the top events in these places have tens of thousands of pounds in financial backing, something we simply didn’t have.
People often asked for the likes of Patrick Topping, Detlef, Latmun etc to appear at our events. These acts charge around £6000-7000 an hour, just to play, and then comes there travel costs, accommodation, meals and riders. This isn’t possible in Scunthorpe in a club where the capacity is 300. It would easily be £30-40 a ticket just for one of those acts to appear. Who the hell would pay that?
We’re not saying it’s the end. We know Scunthorpe is dead, we know most of the clubs, including VOID, have not shut down and will not open again with a footfall of a few hundred BUT we may attempt to put on one small event in a different venue before the end of the year. We are also considering other offers at the moment to be involved in an exciting project just outside of town.
We wish things could be different and we could host crazy events every month, but in Scunthorpe that is impossible. We had a great time with the Diffraction project and the work we did with Void Nightclub but for now, it’s the end of the road. We would also like to state that the Void and Carbon brands have also reached the end of there time and as I’m sure you’ve all noticed, the club has been closed for a while now and will not reopen.
