The Idle Rocks Perched on the rocks, in the heart of St Mawes, on the Roseland Peninsula, South Cornwall, our 19-bedroom Relais & Châteaux hotel is your home away from home.
(806)

With an award-winning restaurant, seaview terrace and south-facing views across the water. The Idle Rocks has the most enviable location in St Mawes, overlooking the harbour with views across the river Fal to Falmouth. Our 19 bedrooms, most with stunning vistas over the bay, have been thoughtfully designed, each having their own unique identity with fabulous fabrics and decor that leave you in no doubt that you are by the sea. After a long day lazing on the beach, our south facing terrace is the perfect place to relax, have a long drink, and watch the world go by. You may even see your dinner being landed on the harbourside. The Idle Rock’s restaurant, run by our Head Chef, Carla Jones, is a celebration of Cornwall; showcasing a range of fabulous produce that has been sourced locally using only seasonal fresh ingredients. In many cases it will have been swimming right on our doorstep only a few hours earlier and while the food is of the very highest standard, our setting is very relaxed. The Idle Rocks is a member of the Relais & Chateaux worldwide group of hotels & restaurants
We hold 1 Michelin Key for the hotel, and our restaurant is listed in the 2024 Michelin Guide. We are a 2024 Tripadvisor Travellers Choice Award winner.

While we wait for the first big storm of the season, a few sunny highlights from October.

What a month it’s been. Blue sparkly sea. Warm Autumn sunshine. Bubble baths with a view. Cocktails with friends. And daily sea swims.

The sun shone on the first of our Autumn Chef Series weekends. Guests enjoyed w**e tasting with Jo from Trevibban Mill Vineyard on the terrace. Followed by pre-dinner drinks with a magnificent pink sunset over St Mawes harbour. And a spectacular Japanese-inspired menu from Mattia Ricci and his team Sexy Fish London | Japanese-Inspired Restaurant. 10/10 weekend.

We have 2 more fabulous Autumn Chef Series events coming up:

7th November: Matthew Mawtus, HIDE London.
We welcome renowned sommelier Matthew Mawtus, Director of Food & Beverage at HIDE London & Hedonism Wines, to The Reef Knot Restaurant. Matthew will lead a w**e journey, reliving some of the exceptional pours from Guy & Matthew’s time working together in the late 2000s. To sit alongside the w**es, our executive chef Guy has created a beautiful menu matching up notes & flavours throughout. A event that’s not to be missed!

28th November: Adam Smith, Woven.
We look forward to welcoming Michelin-star chef Adam Smith to The Reef Knot Restaurant for an evening of exceptional food cooked in his modern British style. With a career working amongst some of the country’s top culinary establishments, this exceptional dining event should be top of your bucket list when it comes to kick-starting the festive season.

October in St Mawes.

There’s a quiet beauty to the village at this time of year. The summer crowds have departed. The air and sea are still warm. And the low Autumn sun bathes the harbour in the most beautiful golden light.

Local photographer Lucy Cullen went out at sunrise and sunset to capture these blissful October moments for us.

Wish you were here?

When it comes to rounding out the season, what could be better than bringing great people together, laying the long table, and cooking up some beautiful Cornish seafood served with the finest chilled rosé?

Last Friday, we hosted an Endless Lunch in collaboration with , a beautiful event celebrating all things summer. This season in St Mawes has truly been one of the best - endless days of sun, beautiful memories made, and plenty of glasses enjoyed.

The season may be turning, but the party has only just begun. Keep an eye on our events listings for more dining by the sea. 🌊
