Edit: to clarify access into the closed section at the moment is only from the Hastings direction. The road coming from Bexhill direction is completely closed.
PLANNED ROADWORKS A259 (BEXHILL ROAD)
This afternoon I've had a meeting with a very helpful representative (Peter) of Balfour Beatty (the company who will be carrying out the roadworks on Bexhill Road over the next 5 weeks) to get a better idea of how these works will implicate us.
I'd like to start by saying that, having had the meeting, it seems that they are very sympathetic on how these works are going to affect residents and businesses alike and that any disruption will be kept to a minimum. In summary, this is what he said:
- On the majority of occasions, there will be NO traffic lights used during the day, as ALL works will be carried out from 7:00pm - 6:00am. This means that there should generally be no disruption outside of these hours during the daytime.
- The only planned exception to the above will be for a 2 or 3 day period later on, when they know they have a much deeper excavation to make, which will probably be left exposed, after the night time works are finished, and traffic lights will have to be installed. However, if they do come across other exceptional matters during the works, that require deeper excavation, this may also need lights being in place, but it is hoped that this is not going to be the case.
- During the working hours (7:00 pm - 6::00am) the road will only be closed off at one end of the works at a time (starting from Glyne Gap). However, residential & business access will be available at ALL times from the other end, although this will be monitored by a traffic management operative, who will allow access to any residents or customers visiting businesses in the closed area (f you are coming to visit us, please let them know and they will allow you through). Once a section of road is completed the closed section will move along Bexhill Road, so full access will gradually become available, without having to follow the designated detour. Unfortunately, the designated detour is very long (as it has to remain on a designated "A" road, for buses and lorries etc) but there are much shorter routes available for cars (i.e. via Filsham Road).
- Peter (from Balfour Beatty) has assured me that if there are any issues regarding access etc, please speak to the crews on-site as they should be able to provide more information and help.
Hopefully, you will find the above information useful for planning any journeys along the A259 (Bexhill Road) over the next 5 weeks. If you are planning to come to us in the next few weeks, we sincerely hope that you will still make your reservation, as your custom will be very much appreciated, but we would suggest that you try to arrive before 7:00 pm, so that you are already here before the road closure starts, thus avoiding any delays on your journey to us. Initially, on departure, you will be directed to turn left, towards Hastings and follow any diversion towards Bexhill and beyond, although this will not be necessary, once our section of the road is completed (hopefully, 7 - 10 days!!).
If we receive any further information, or find out that things are significantly different to the above we will endeavour to keep you informed.
Thank you,
Pete & Pauline
