Port Eliot is one of the most beautiful places in Cornwall; the perfect place for a wedding, film shoot or festival-styled celebration. Explore the treasures in the House. Gaze at the masterpieces by Reynolds and Van Dyck. Decipher the Lenkiewicz Round Room riddle mural. Wander amidst the rhododendrons and camellias. Get lost in the maze. Lie beside the unspoilt estuary. Bring your dog and picnic wherever you like. The House and Gardens are extremely ancient and have been lived in for over 1000 years; the passage of centuries can be felt as you walk around the estate. The House was remodelled by Sir John Soane in the eighteenth century and sits in a romantic landscape laid out by Humphrey Repton which stretches down to a secret estuary on the river Tamar. It is a magical ensemble which in March 2008 was opened to the public for the very first time. The House and gardens have the rare distinction of both being awarded Grade 1 status. Children love to run free in the vast lawns. Others prefer the calm and dappled shade of the spring woodland gardens. Port Eliot is the historic seat of the Earl of St Germans. The family have lived at Port Eliot for hundreds of years, and have accumulated a magnificent collection of exquisite furniture and paintings. But the house is still very much a family home.

It just keeps getting better! That was just what you’d hope a Sunday rummage would look and feel like in Cornwall!

The biggest number of stall holders yet with an influx of buyers right through until 2pm with many taking multiple trips back to the car to unload the b***y so they could hunt again! From Victorian architectural model fragments & vintage carved wood model carousel horses to 14ft circus signs & just a simple original oil painting or useful set of plates, there was a plethora of gems to be found in every direction.

Thanks once again to all that came along, it’s turning in to something magical.

It’s tomorrow morning! A real melting pot of preloved usefuls, local crafts, vintage gems and antiques with great sales for sellers and even better finds for buyers!

The ground is a little muddy outside the house post festival, so we will be hosting this months country house car boot on the fields above the house which you’ll see as soon as you enter through the usual entrance. As always, good homemade food at The Eliot Arms and live music at The Stables at Port Eliot from 2.30pm with draught beer and good coffee.

The next instalment of our Country House Car Boot is on the 6th of September at 10am! Vintage gems, antiques, preloved usefuls & local handmade items with a country house backdrop, live music and good food & drink. £2pp to buy, £7 to sell. Sellers can set up from 8am this time. Buying begins at 10am and finishes at 2pm.
